More D Report post Posted February 3, 2009 I would like to have the hide from my wifes elk hunt tanned. I have no idea where or how to go about it. Can anyone recommend a company/taxidermist? I would like to keep it in AZ because of the shipping, etc. It has the hair on now and it has been in a chest freezer for a couple of months now. I would like leather(hair off) and a dark brown/black color. thanks
Schmitty Report post Posted February 3, 2009 I don't think that there are any commercial tannerys in AZ. If you take it to a taxidermist, all they will do is ship it out of state to a commercial tannery. I've seen Moyle's tannery up in Idaho's work and it is very nice and their prices are hard to beat. Google Moyles tannery and you should be able to find their website.
.270 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 i've sent a bunch of em to "New Method" in frisco. they used to be pretty good, but i've heard they ain't that dependable anymore. they're the only tannery i know of this side of the mississipi. wherever you send it, it takes a long time to get it back. Browning'sCustomMeat Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Look at Van Dyke's web site, "DIY" kits(solutions) are available for a reasonable price. -Jeremy-
Red Rabbit Report post Posted February 4, 2009 here are some tanneries. My taxidermist in Flag has used Golden State in CA, and one in Victoria, TX http://taxidermy.net/suppliers/tanning.php
hunterdude Report post Posted February 5, 2009 You can try Weller's taxidermy in Tucson. I had one done by them and it turned out great!
yotebuster Report post Posted February 5, 2009 I've sent a lot of yotes to USAFOXX in duluth minnesota, I know they were way cheaper then anyone else around and easy to deal with... the logistics of getting it up there could be tricky though. Check their website, its really user friendly and tells you actual prices for everything. YOTE
