Youth Hunters

Recommended Posts

I was going to leave my son alone bowhunting in a blind for a while. As long as a youth has a valid hunting license, I don't see anywhere in the regs that a youth needs to be accompanied by an adult when hunting. As side from any firearm laws, are there and G&F regs about a youth hunting without an adult?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

Looking on page 28 of the 2008-2009 regs, is says a youth under 14 may hunt wildlife other than big game without a license if accompanied by a licensed hunter 18 and older. Nothing said about a licensed youth needing to be accompanied on that page or the chart on the page 29.

Thanks Doug, that's what I saw also. Someone had told me that a youth needs to be accompanied by an adult, so I was thinking that I missed something in the regs.

I think if you feel he can handle himself then let him. But if there is that one little voice that says different then wait, he will get there soon enough. ;)

Mark,

No worries! ;) In history kids his age were doing a man's work.... I am certain he can man a blind on his own! ;)

I have had Colton archery hunting alone since he was 12.... safety belted 20+ feet up in a tree! ;) We always had some way for him to contact us and checked on him regularly. IMO, this is a great way for kids to start to think for themselves and make good choices, it made Colton more independant and patient at a young age... it also made him the monster coues junky that he is today!!!

Let him have at it!! I assure you will see the benifits of this! And good for him, for wanting to take this step!! ;) Good hunting! :)
