couesdiehard Report post Posted January 29, 2009 I had a disappointing experience with my first spike elk. I decided to read up and learn to do the work myself and two years later, I butchered another spike elk myself and got nearly twice as much meat. Not only did I get more meat butchering by myself but the meat was much better eating and I credit that to the fact that I never use a saw. I only de-bone the meat. I will never go back to a meat processor. As a side benefit the wife and kids actually enjoy helping with the butchering now.
