Technique Tip: Shooting Snowy Scenes

Taking pictures of snow can be tricky because of its reflective nature and the fact that a proper white balance can be difficult to achieve due the snow’s brightness. Have you ever noticed your snowy scenes have a bluish tint? If so, adjust your camera’s white balance until the snow photographs accurately.

You may also need your flash in these circumstances. Even if you’re in bright sunlight, the flash can fill in the dark areas (including shadows under your subject’s eyes) so the image is properly lit.

Here's some comparison pics from today's Sedona trip. Seems the +1.7, +2 EV blew it out a little. Perhaps +1 would have been better.
