jamaro Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Hey Guys... I recently did a review on the Covert I. To see it just follow this link. We also did a super-small podcast on Coues Deer Hunting... I haven't listened to it yet... I have a hard time listening to the shows that I am on... It is on the from page. Take Care Jason
Chef Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Good write up. I have never used a trail cam and am envious of those that are successful with their use. The major factor in me not getting one are the thefts so prevalent with these things. The small size and great images from these Covert cameras has caught my eye. They seem to be easy to hide, now are they easy to use? I'm no "computer genius" by any means but do have common sense. I appreciate the time and effort you put into doing the review. I have been contemplating getting my feet wet.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 22, 2009 I think they are really easy to use. they come with a remote that you hook up to the camera and you scroll through options to change settings like to camera or video, for delay settings between shots, for single shot or 3 shot bursts, etc. I LOVE how easy they are to hide. You can put them in places you wouldn't be able to put a normal trail cam. here is a place where I had a covert I set up recently. can you find it?
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 22, 2009 And here are a few recent pics (I sized them down for the web so they lose a little quality): a young buck: chipmunk jumping off my camera: two foxes travelling in the night: almost high noon so lightning harsh in this pic: a scrub jay near the cam:

CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Wow, your good Chef!! Yes, that's it. It's not the greatest hiding job, but I think it shows that you can put this camera out in situations where you wouldn't put a regular camera that has to be attached to a tree. A close up of it. Certainly it could have been hidden better, but it's a spot no one goes so I wasn't really worried about it. here is another example:
jamaro Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Chef... These are really easy to use and the defaults that come with the camera are fine. In theory, all you need to do is put in the batteries and turn it on. You can play with the settings later... and don't worry you really can't break it... Rio Report post Posted January 22, 2009 I have the HCO Scoutguard which is basically the same thing. I echo all of the comments mentioned so far, the size is great and makes it much easier to conceal. I'm not sold on the remote though, it's very easy to use, but I'd like to be able to change/modify the settings through buttons/toggle switches. I'm prone to forgetting items when I head out in the field from time to time... If I could make suggestions for enhancements, I have 2 of them. I'd like to see is a longer time frame before the camera goes active. I always use a bear box and python cable, so after I've turned on the camera, it's takes a few minutes to get everything locked up and adjusted, so the first several pictures are of me or the camera moving. I could compensate for this by having a longer delay between picture burst, but I prefer little to no delay between pictures bursts, just my preference. The other enhancement would be a no flash IR system, the red glow has spooked a couple of deer at night. But overall, I think they have set the bar high for other companies when it comes to size, settings, and options (Pictures and video).
jamaro Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Rio... That is funny I agree with the delay time. I have a ton of pics of my big melon... But with the SD card being 2 gigs there is plenty of room for a few extra pics. J
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 22, 2009 Good points Rio, I too would like a longer startup time when setting it up. I will mention that to Joey, owner of DLC. And fyi you might get your wish soon on the remote issue.... Amanda
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 22, 2009 It's tough to grasp the small size of these cameras compared to other cameras without holding one. Maybe some pics of the Covert 2 against a moultrie cam and a wildview for comparison will help you get an idea. the wildview is smaller than the moultrie, but still not nearly as small as the covert
