Epek broadheads

Recommended Posts

I'm still shooting fixed broadheads, but all my buddies have been using the Rage and trying to convince me to give them a try, but I have also been hearing a lot on the Epek broadheads. Anyone try them yet? My main concern on mech broadheads is not opening up with an arrow entering at a less than perfect angle, which is why I stopped using Vortex along time ago. They are a devistating broadhead until the angle isn'd dead on and then all sorts of funny things happen with them.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;)

Never heard of Epek broadheads so I can't offer any opinion. FWIW, I use Spitfires and like them. But if you like your fixed broadheads and are getting good flight, I wouldn't mess with it.

"G" out of the Utah Archery Center makes them. They are pretty neat. They are not a fold-over the top design(like spitfires) BUT there is a "shroud" that slides down to open the blades... SOO the blades open before they hit the hide. The design is really simple and I can't believe that nobody had thought about it earlier... The blades are super sharp... They have the ability to be locked down do you can use the broadhead for practice without damaging the blades.

How do they fly? I shot a prototype last year and they are the first broadhead that I can honestly fly like field points...

If you have any questions just ask.

Not too good of a broadhead, they kept opening during flight, thats a no go for me, I sent them back and Im going to stick to with my Vortex, I have killed 3 bull elk with the mini max steel 100 gr, and never had a problem with the vortex. My friends have also killed 3 bulls with the same broadheads. Look at some other bow forums and they also talk about having problems opening during flight.

Epeks opening in flight? The way they are designed that looks impossible to me. I have heard that about the Rage though. I haven't shot either one so I can't say for sure. I have been shooting the Grim Reapers which work pretty well.

I would really be interested in how they opened.. That is the first time I have heard of them opening... Not to bash but if there is any doubt about rages opening up ask Randy Ulmer what happened at ATA... It was nuts and he lost $5000.00...

AGAIN.. NOT BASHING.... I am just using the opportunity to share.... Look at this video..

Everybody that participated got $500 the winner got $5000...

Tim did admit to super gluing his blades down... Seriously.... When that head hit the carpet nobody said anything.... It was crazy...

I knew those Mathews guys are all cheater! :P

I think at some point any head can fail. From the look on Randy's face I'm sure that was the first and I'm sure he has shot the Rage

thousands of times.

I found them last year and looked into buying some, sent the company an email. . . . took forever to get a response.

The guy finally told me they had made some production up and I could order them.

I can't find that email anymore.

They look like great heads, but one story about opening up before they hit would shy me away for sure.

EPEK SITE

I think the Tru Fire Swithchblades look and work pretty close to the same and they fly awesome for me.

I still think the jury is out on that one set that opened... There are magnets in the inner sleeve that hold the blades down... I am not saying anybody is lying but I would like to know how they know the blades opened.... I just don't see it happening... In fact there natural state is closed.. The trigger needs to be hit for them to open and stay open.... Anyway, if you have any questions let me know... I know that broadheads are a very personal decision and that selecting one is all about trust. If you trust the heads then you will be fine.. If there is doubt then maybe you need to look elsewhere.. I know am going to try to kill a coues deer with one this year...
