GameHauler Report post Posted January 14, 2009 Cody I think you have your hands full but proud of what you are trying to do. Sorry I can not help you on 19A but hopefully maybe a member would be willing to take you out and show you some stuff they hunt. With your Mothers permission of course Good luck Nobble young man. matthewp45 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Go behind the Fane Ranch (the east side next the mountains). Get on the powerline road and go down about 4 miles. Right when you are able to see the open prairie you are in great pig country. Last year antelope hunting we glassed probably 30 and ran into two other herds. Concentrate between the powerline road and the Ranch.
TLH Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Good job Matt--i was going to tell him to go to the same place. So what if it is fishy--who cares! If it is a youth then he will be hooked for life if he kills a pig--if it isn't a youth and he hasn't killed a pig he will be hooked if he does. Man i get tired of people not wanting to help others--i just don't get it.

BML Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Great job Matt!! I as well, was going to recommend that spot. I live in 19A and hunt coyotes in those foothills whenever I can get out. I see pigs at least two or three times a year out there. They can be tough to find at times, but they are there. Good luck!!
seek100plus Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Couple of things , my son name is Cody to , do you have the youth hunt , if so , I would say go ten miles West on cherry road , look for the dump on the left and start glassing the hills and washes to the north of cherry hill road , lots of good pig spots .Youth asking for help to kill a pig and do his own spike camp is so cool in my book, not like its known to have 100 class bucks or 400 class bulls , its a pig! I will be helping some kids and there dad's on my block ,who also got drawn for the youth hunt in 19 A. I hope ,your dad is ,blown away, with the knowledge you are coming up with, but you beter let him know soon , if you have the youth hunt it ,starts on the 23 of Jan. Have , your dad send me a pm and all get him on track
Coach Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I'm glad to see some are willing to help point another hunter in the right direction. Let's face it, this is a HUGE state. No way any of us can become experts in all areas. Cody, best of luck to you - I've never hunted in 19A, so I don't have any advice for you - but asking here is a great start. Good luck and come back on here with some pictures. For the rest - if you don't want to share info - don't. If you don't want the whole world to hear your info but still want to help, that's what PMs are great for. We need to help eachother out in my opinion. elkaholic Report post Posted January 15, 2009 hello - I can just add two words to remember while hunting pigs , just about anywhere in the state -- Prickly pear cactus ---ok 3 words -- 9 out or 10 hunters will find pigs in this kind of cactus - don't ever over look a patch! Pig's tear'm up! look for signs of rooting and the cactus will be shreaded! Good Luck - Gary
Birddog Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Cody good luck I hope you get your pig! For the rest of you that can't wait to jump down someone’s throat lightin up. I was just simply stating It seems a little fishy. Nothing more! I wanted to hear more from Cody before I spat out one of my favorite spots. That’s all! I have a son pretty close to the same age and I coach baseball every year. So I have a little experience with kids of this age group. I can't imagine someone of this age navigating the internet to CouesWhitetail.com, signing up, starting a new post and asking scouting tips on a unit. If I am wrong so be it. He will surly grow up to be a better hunter than all of us. So before you put on your big boy jeans and try to put a foot where the good lord split me take a deep breath and relax. You don't know me! Maybe see where I was going first.
