Birddog Report post Posted January 14, 2009 Well I was called into a meeting today to discuss cost-saving measures. Bottom line 383 full time employees were let go today with a severance package. Luckly I still have my job for the time being. Has anyone else been through the same lately?
willhunt4coues Report post Posted January 14, 2009 There have been some really big layoffs here at the mines in Globe/Miami, and Safford areas. If the economy does not improve who knows what will happen.

GameHauler Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I wish mine would lay me off Best of luck to all of you folks facing these trying times. Things are tough for most of us. My business slowed with the economy and my wife said maybe you should find a job Yea right close my shop, go to work for someone for 2 months and then get laid off I got a big shot in the arm as my only real competition closed their parts and service dept a couple months ago so I am pretty much the only place in town There really is only enough business for one. (And no, my prices will NOT go up ) Bad thing is I may have to hire someone this summer
seek100plus Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Yes, this is tough times and along hard road ahead is coming. I'm in construction and the bottom has fallen out. Construction has provided a good income for me in the past 6 years and work was crazy , but I to was laid off in September, but I knew it wouldn’t last , so I saved some money and put it away , for these tough times . I have never had the time off to go hunt or even think about taking a week to go hunt .I feel, so relaxed and blessed to be able to see my kids on the weekend or be able to have the guns packed and also the camping stuff in the truck, waiting for my kids to come home from school and off we go to be able to spend time together. I have truly missed out on the passion to go hunting and now, I find myself sitting on top of a mountain’s glassing for game and knowing deep down inside of the memories and the time in my life, I have lost, making someone else rich and now, I am, rich now being able to hunt and spend time with my kids. longshooter Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I got laid off almost a year ago from a large framing company and started my own framing company up within a week. We had a awesome spring and summer but as soon as Sept-October came the bottom fell out on us and its been down hill ever since. Biggest problem that construction is seeing right now is the lending has tightened up and all the cash buyers are scared to spend a dime right now. The big question is , will the big bail outs the banks received help free up lending ?
seek100plus Report post Posted January 15, 2009 My uncle , is high up in the lending department at Bank of America and he told me , B of A will give out 2 to 3 loans for the commercial dept in 2009 for their budgets and that is not good , you are correct , owners want to build , but if you want 20 million , they will only give you 2 million if you give them 3 million down payment and that wont work . billrquimby Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I retired ten years ago in March, so I can't be laid off, but it doesn't mean we retirees aren't affected. My supposedly "conservative" 401K funds shrunk 65% during 2008. Meanwhile the IRS required that I withdraw a percentage (and pay the taxes) based on the funds in my account at the end of 2007. Although my income is fixed, the cost of utilities, insurance, food, and everything else rose 3% to 10% during 2008. I was scheduled to help two very wealthy international big game hunters write their memoirs in 2008 and both backed out, saying they couldn't afford my paltry fee until their businesses recovered. If guys who were hunting elephants, bongo, mountain nyala, Marco Polo sheep and markhor in the same year are having money trouble, you know things are bad!
