CouesFanatic Report post Posted January 14, 2009 I'm planning on picking up a 300 RUM and I need a scope. I don't have the money to go buy a Z6 Swarovski scope. I'm looking in the $200 to $300 range. I really want something with a lot of reticles, as many as I can find, so I can shoot far accurately. I Also would like to have the wind marks on the side of the reticles. I dunno 6-20 ish power? I'm willing to sacrifice quality to get reticles. If you have any suggestions, let me know. My Dad has this scope: http://www.swfa.com/pc-8473-380-swift-6-24...ifle-scope.aspx I'd really like to find the same thing but with reticles. Thanks
Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 14, 2009 For around $300, look at the Burris Fullfield II or the Bushnell 3200. Both can be had with a ballistic reticle. If you are planning on taking the RUM in to the woods for elk, I would consider a 3.5-10 or 4.5-14x for the lower power and larger field of view at closer ranges (rather than a 6-18, 6.5-20). Give Doug at CameraLand a call and see what he can do for you.
CouesFanatic Report post Posted January 15, 2009 Thanks for the reply, I will check those out. I only hunt elk with a bow, so that wont be much of a problem.

Coach Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I've got Cabela's Alaskan Guide scopes on 2 rifles and they have been really good scopes for the $$. One is a 6-20 AO but I think those are sold out right now and they don't seem to offer them with mil dots anymore. You might call and ask though. Their 4.5-14 is currently on sale for $299. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 Might think about less rifle and more scope... +1. 300 rum is a heavy hitter, and I would doubt a $200-300 scope is going to hold up like it should. OTOH, a Zeiss 3-9x40 can be had for $325-$400(brand new at 400) Excellant scopes for the money and I sold a TON of them when I worked at Sportsmans Warehouse. CouesFanatic Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I've shot a 300 rum a lot before, so I know for sure its the gun for me. I'm concerned about the scope holding up. Anyone know how vortex scopes do?
GHOSTLUVR Report post Posted January 31, 2009 +1 for the Bushnell 3200 line. All Bushnell 3200 scopes are tested to withstand equivalent to a .375 H+H recoil. The Bushnell 3200 10x40 mil dot is being sold on the Barrett .50 BMG packages. Granted this is a semi auto .50 thus less recoil, but still pretty impressive. I built my daughter's rifle on a budget and got this scope around $200. The MOA adjustments are positive and it consistently returns to zero zero (passed the 100 yrd box test multiple times)! It's not the ballistic reticle your asking about, but in your price range and on a 300 RUM, I think you would be pleased! However, you need to know something about minute of angle adjustments to work the turret, and I won't even get into the use of mill dots so as not to confuse.....Good luck! curmudgen Report post Posted February 3, 2009 For great service, if it's ever needed, you can't beat Leupold. And they have some very good scopes with ranging reticles in your price range, or slightly higher. I've used many brands over the years and have and happiest with Leupold, although I'm sure you can get more scope for a thousand dollars if you have it to spend, which you and I apparently don't. When the time comes to take a shot at a buck of a life time at extended range you want your optics to be top notch. Be patient and get a good quality scope.
