Mother of all smuggler camps

Recommended Posts

This is a wash off of Chavez Siding, 36B. We have been hunting here for years and going down twice a year with hunters who care and cleaning up their mess. This is by far the worst we have seen in 10 years of hunting there. We plan to concentrate on this area on the next cleanup. Yes we will need lots of help it's 1/2 mile up a wash.

When I see that kind of mess it makes my blood boil. I wish there was a way to make those who made the mess work to clean it up. It would be nice if BP could haul everyone they catch to some of these problem spots and require them to clean up for a few hours before they are sent back home.

     I think we should all get some satellite phones if the cells don't work and go hunt some boarder jumpers in the off season, I'm sure Border Patrol could have a couple of real busy days.

I am sending note of this to every friend of mine who looks askew at me throwing my used coffee grounds on the desert floor. I 'd seen this crap near Coronado, but it makes one pissed every time it comes up. We all know this is a hunting website, but thanks for letting us know, once more, that to many, our land is a cesspool.

I'm starting to hunt down south again. Haven't seen em yet, although I know it's only a matter of time. What I have seen is lots of trash. Pretty sad when you can glass up endless amounts of trash.

Add me to the list. I will be glad to help and will bring some extra hands. My wife and I have been cleaning up certain areas. We take the backpacks and some clothes, wash them and donate them to several charities. Let me know.

I have contacted the ranger for this unit and there is no date set yet for the next clean up but he is considering a mini-clean up for this area in the spring. I will post the date and contact you guys then, thanks for your support, Mike.

Hunted 36B two years ago and saw the light.......and it wasn't pretty, pretty darn ugly to be honest and disappointing. So I put together a little slide show of all the mess we saw, sent it to several gov. agencies and news channels. About six months later I got a post card from Napaletano's office telling me how much they appreciate my concern for our environment and they have people working on the problem.....uhhhhhhhhh the only people I have seen trying to take care of the problem is the volunteers picking up the trash.......which in my opinion is the secondary problem that is a result of the first problem........you know where I am headed with this one don't you.......

Maybe someone did not like what i said. My post seems to not be here anymore. Anyways i will not say it again. The clean ups are great. The thing with hunters who care is it is a not for profit that is set up to do it. And it atracts eyes looking at hunters doing this. If it is just a group of guys running out and doing it than it is not as seen. I think it is important for others to see who is doing it.

I hunted 36b for the first time in Dec- I was also shocked at the amount of trash in the washes- If these areas are so obviously continually used by UDA's and smugglers- why aren't they under continious watch? I phoned into the BP on 3 UDA that we spotted during our hunt. I gave gps coords to the person on the phone. It went downhill from there. I was asked to give road #'s and mileage from certain locations as he told me that not all BP units had access to gps info. HUH? No access to Gps? This guy made me feel uncomfortable for making the call which ended up being 5 minutes of questions. We talked to some BP on the ground after 4 UDA ran through our camp at 4 AM. He said all units have gps access- so hummm- what was with the phone guy? Who knows. Anyway I've vented. Put me down to help with clean-up.
