IHunt2live Report post Posted January 13, 2009 Not trying to e-scout or anything but I would like some input on what units I might/should put in for. I've only elk hunted once and that was going on 10 years ago. I know I'm probably opening a can of worms with this one, sorry. Heres what I'm looking for. Archery, early season, 1st choice will probable be bull, not counting on it with such few bonus points and second will be cow, Don't want a limited oppertunity hunt but a fairly good chance in getting drawn even if its my second choice for cow, and I was thinking a unit with some open juniper country so I can glass a little might be nice since thats the only way I know how to hunt . My dad will probably also put in as well. I think we will only have 3 bonus points maybe 4. Thanks for any ideas or if you want to keep your mouth shut I understand. Just thought I would ask. Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 13, 2009 You can check your draw odds here for the various elk hunts. http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/b.../1-2%20Pass.pdf 6AW and 7E will likely give you the best chance of drawing an archery bull tag with 3 BP (17-19%). You can hunt the PJ or pines in either unit. 5B N&S have pj country also. I do not know much about the White Mountain units to help you. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
AZcoues_addict Report post Posted January 13, 2009 With a few bonus points, the cow tag as a second choice should be almost 100% draw in many units. This will most likely put you in the max bonus point pool. Units 3-10 are all good for cow archery hunting. I think units 5 and 6 have a higher population of elk, with more tags, but also more hunters. These are great hunts. I think 4 and 10 are a little tougher, with lower populations. If all you want is a cow, then you can really throw a dart at the map near flagstaff, start scouting, and find the type of hunt you seem to be asking for.
