thunderbolt Report post Posted January 10, 2009 Now that the vortex 15x50 have been out for a while i want to get everybody's opinion on them. I have a pair and i think the clarity is pretty darn good but i really hate the focus. Its just too darn touchy. Other than that i love them as my first true pair of binos. I'm comparing these vortex to the old style zeiss my friend has. What do you vortex 15x50 users think ?
wbyfireman Report post Posted January 10, 2009 I really like mine as well!! I have compared them to many others and put them only behind the Zeiss 15X60's and of course the Swaro's. So with the exception of the first, and last 10-minuts of the day they are about 95% of what the 2000$$ ones are. And yes they are better than the Bruntons, the Fuginons and Nikon 15's. Case closed. I'll take the pepsi challenge any time.... in fact I already have.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 10, 2009 I looked through a pair of the 15x50's and was not wowed, actually a little disappointed in IQ. Have heard they have been discontinued. Vortex is coming out with a new 15x bino that will be worth looking at. CameraLand made an announcement on this forum. VORTEX INTRODUCES THE HIGH-POWERED KAIBAB BINOCULAR Named in honor of the famous North Kaibab plateau, home of some of the country’s largest mule deer, Vortex Optics’ new Kaibab 15x56 HD binoculars deliver an exceptional, high-powered stereoscopic view for serious western big game hunters. The Kaibab’s feature Vortex’s advanced HD Optical System, a combination of sophisticated optical engineering, advanced multi-layered XR lens coating, and XD (extra-low dispersion) glass in the objectives. All exterior lenses are protected by ArmorTek, an ultra-hard, scratch resistant fluorine compound that repels oil, dirt and corrosive salts of fingerprints. The result is a high-powered binocular with exceptional color fidelity and resolution of the finest detail. Bright, crisp and clear, the new Kaibab offers a level of optical quality and performance that was once found only in European binoculars selling for up to twice the price. So, when hours of glassing with high-powered binoculars is the preferred hunting tactic, it takes both serious patience and the highest quality optics like Vortex’s new Kaibab 15x56mm binoculars to consistently locate your next western trophy. elkaholic Report post Posted January 10, 2009 hello - I agree on one major issue with a lot of bino's - they need the one click adjustment on the focus - it seems like an easy fix for an expensive pair of bino's .
Hardcore Outdoor Report post Posted January 10, 2009 If Vortex was going to go to the trouble of upgrading their big glass why not go all the way and give us a 15x60. Better yet, if the Zeiss boys could bring the theirs out of retirement, give it a little spiffing up and some FL glass, I would be happier than a puppy with two peters. Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 19, 2009 I suspect there are limits on the objective size for roof prism binos, as too big would require too large of an interocular distance to fit some people's eyeball spacing.
inline Report post Posted January 19, 2009 I just got home from my first trip down chasing Coues Deer. And I am hooked. I was unsuccessful, but I am already starting to work on next years hunt. To bought a pair of the 15X50 to take down there. I was very impressed, I have looked through just about every $500-$1000 price range binocular over the past year in the 15's. And these were very clear and the comfortable to glass through. The depth of focus was driving crazy for the 1st couple of days, but I did get used to it. I think they are the best 15's for under a grand that I have seen. The focus was enough of a nuisance that I will eventually try and replace them with swaro 15's, but they will be more than sufficient in the meantime. thunderbolt Report post Posted January 21, 2009 I really want to look at the new kaibab 15x56 when they come out, but if it has the same focus issues i won't be getting them. i was looking for the right words but i think inline said it best "the depth of focus" sucks and it does take a long while to get used to. Great glass though.
