COOSEFAN Report post Posted January 8, 2009 Well my buddy finally convinced me to give it a try. I have always fished for numbers and never really tried to catch the biggun's, my patience isn't there and I get frustrated fast if i'm not gettin' bit! With this in mind I was reluctant to try it but heck, even if I spend the day on the water and never get a bite, it's still better than workin'....well, that aint true, I REALLY need a job, i NEED to be workin' but I went fishing anyway My buddy and I headed out, all I took was my reel as my poles weren't heavy enough so I borrowed one of his and I spooled on some 20lb test line that he had as well. The lures we used were almost as big as the fish I normally catch and were either very expensive or not available anymore so I was pretty scared launching them out into the lake....luckily I never lost any The day started out clear and calm and we were one of only 3 boats on the water, absolutely perfect! As expected, the action was non-existent but i was getting better at lobbing the huge lure and finally got the feel for this style of fishing. Then our luck turned for the better as a G+F truck pulled up to the ramp and started dumping a whole bunch of "vitamin T" as he called it, or "Trout" into the water! WhooHOo! Now we have a new fresh "bait site" all set up for us compliments of AZGFD....go figure! Shortly after that I was reeling in my fake fish when I finally had a "thump" and a little tension on the line so I leaned back hard and set the hook in my first swimbait fish! The fish fought hard but was landed fast as I was careful not to give em' any slack. This fish wasn't a monster but a nice 4 pounder which is a trophy in my book! Now that first one was out of the way it became alot easier to fish with the big lures, confidence is everything! Not long after the first fish, we saw a trout getting slammed up against a rock wall, my line was already out too far so my buddy flipped his lure perfectly into the action and we both saw a giant bass hammer the fake trout! We were flopping around more than the fish was, trying to get the net and get positioned to land the beast. It was amazing to pull that hog out of the water, and on the scale she weighed in at 8.25lbs.!!! That was my buddy's 4th largest fish and one of the largest I've personally witnessed catching! We threw her in the livewell so we would have her for pictures later if we caught another one.....unfortunately we thought my first one was probably our only one and already let it go. Again, not long after we caught the big one I had another "thump" and I let him have it hard, leaning back and reeling fast I felt like I had a good one and soon saw it was a little bigger but not as fat. This second fish for me weighed in at 4.75lbs.! That made a total of 8.75 lbs. total for me out of 2 fish and 8.25 lbs. for my buddy with 1 fish! I got him on weight, but I'd trade my 2 for his 1 anyday!!! It was a slow day but that's how trophy fishin' goes, we knew it would be slow but it's exciting knowing that when you do catch something it probably won't be a dink! Now I've gotta get back to hunting, but those bass are in for some trouble, I'll be back lookin' for my own "wall hanger"! Thanks, JIM>

WadeNAZ Report post Posted January 8, 2009 Right On Coosefan!. That is a great spot you caught those hogs at. I can tell you from experience. If you want to double the fun. take a float tube with those swim baits on the other side of that bridge and hold on!
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 8, 2009 Those are some nice pez! My dad has thrown those swim baits and they sure do make a huge splash when they hit the water 1/4 mile from the boat! PS, I really like the 2, and the 3 picture better than the first and last.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 8, 2009 Rather than check the solunar tables to see when the best time to fish is, one should check the stocking schedule for the arrival of the bait truck, err I mean fish stocking truck. I hear the browns at River Res also like the delivery of trout dinners.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted January 8, 2009 Jim, I'm sure glad you through the little one back to grow up. Them are hogs that's for sure. That must had been a real treat pulling them bad boys in. Thanks for sharing. TJ

I hear the browns at River Res also like the delivery of trout dinners. I have thrown big baits at River Res just after stocking and haven't been bit yet, but I keep trying. Caught a 4 pound brown out of Tunnel last year on a big crankbait.
