Dogman strikes again!

Recommended Posts

Dad hunted this lion for a several days before finally catching up with it. Maybe ol Dogman will get on here and tell us the short and skinny of it all........ He did say he weighed it at 155lbs back at home so that's freakin HUGE!! What a head on that dang thing!

Well truthfully I didn't really do all that much. Another guy had seen a lion track a week before. My lion hunting buddy, Andy Knowlton and I went and took a look. The lion went from down low up into some little canyon country and I could not find him. My client and I walked the canyons and just kept circling. The middle of day 3 we cold trailed into a two day old scratch and got a good direction. The lion headed north into a country with deep snow and no deer or elk. We just circled ahead after finding the clue and cut him fresh. It was actually a pretty simple, easy catch.

Thanks to Outdoor writer for the good referral and a good client to hunt with. This lion was very similar to the one Outdoor Writer took while hunting with me 20 years ago.

Anyway, lion hunting is all about the dogs and not just killing lions.

I second that. Now that I have taken one lion I think I'm done killing them but will continue to go out with the dogman every chance I get, watching those dogs is awesome. I hunted a year or so ago with the dogman on his mules for a couple of days looking for lions and I have to say it was one of my most enjoyable hunts being able to ride around on the mules and watch his dogs work. Once the lion is caught it's pretty much over and I don't see the need to kill every dang lion that get's caught, watching those dogs on the trail and at the tree is what it's all about. Don't get me wrong I would still shoot another lion if I glassed one up or saw one while hunting but once that happen's, if ever then I can say that honestly I would never shoot another. Congrats to Randy and his dogs on a monster tom. Did hap smoke that fresh track again?? That dog is one bad dude!!!

So lets see some pictures of the dogs! We all know and love Hap, but perhaps you've got some pic's of the future superstars?

Congrats on another great lion!
