Best grunt calls for whities

Recommended Posts

So this is my 2nd season bowhunting whitetail in AZ and I was wondering if all the

eastern whitetail (in general) calls/grunt tubes works on coues deer?

If so, what calls are the best or give the best results for calling in a buck?

I did call a doe in last year with this piece of crap Primos

"Hyper buck and doe". i cant get this thing to grunt or snort to save my life

but it makes this terrible bleat or fawn distress call.

Rattling?

Decoying?

Your expirences welcome (good or bad)! Thanks.

Jeff

I used a combination of calls today to call a two 3x3's in. Unfortunatly they didnt like something just as they got to my shooting lane and went the other way  . I was using a Primos big can and a Primos grunt tube. I was amazed that calling actually worked!!

Jeremy350,

What kind of Primos grunt tube is it?

Congrats on the calling success!

I went out this morning and blindly call a little

bit in the fog and nothing.

This evening I spotted 2 bucks, stalked in close and softly called

nothing. I even teased some little mulie antlers together.

I have come to the conclusion I just need a spotter to guide me in or sit where I see the

deer and wait.

Hey Jeff

it was a Primos Power Buck and Doe. It is a yellow color with a compass on it for some reason. It was pretty cool watcing the bigger buck come from the other side of the canyon to within 60 yards. the shot at 60 just wasn't right so I waited and it didn't work. The funny thing is that it was actually my wife that was calling for me

+1 to the Modern Call Products. Used one a couple of years ago to grunt in a 94" buck to about 20 yards where he met my Black Widow Recurve ;)

Yesterday I still hunted an area that had so many deer tracks it made my head spin.

I grunted a few times here and there and nothing, not a doe!

Getting frustrated and I have yet to see any rutting activity.

Thanks for the link, I'll check them out.

I have used the primos grunt tube and bleat can from primos that you put your finger over the hole and flip it upside down and it bleat. I have used them in the past and they have worked great the only thing that I do not like about the bleat can is about every 2-3 years the pc inside like drys up or something and the bleat sounds worse and worse. I was sitting in a tree stand 2 weeks ago and I hear rustling in the bushes thne I heard a grunt and then a bleat so I started to turn around slowly and I was think that I was going to turn around and my 2 buddies were going to be standing there laughing having a good time with there calls. Nope it was too hard for me to get a shot because of a tree that was in the way but it was a coues 3x3 mounting and chasing around a doe. I was so amazed that how close those sounded to the calls that I have used in the past. I have really only been on the giving side of the calls not the recieving. Of course Murphys Law would have that I did not have any of my calls on me. I am making sure that I have this weekend when I go, but I have to stand by primos stuff. I have used it for elk with great response and deer with great response. It is usually me that messes after I get them in bow range. I know its frustrating but just trying different things is the ticket if one combination does not work then try a different way if that does not work then try nothing as in call. I am always the guy if I have a doe close to me I will make weird noises and see here reaction trying to be still. Once I tried blowing out of my nose and and making a huh huh noise at the same time. I experienced this sound when a doe was doing this to a fawn one time and I did to this sound to this doe and she ran up to me like she wanted to help me. I backed up quite a few feet from her. Just go have fun at it.
