Invitation to Tag-Soup night!

Recommended Posts

I'm headed out of state tomorrow for a week (so there goes part o' my January season! Ack! :( ) so my tag gets boiled tonight.

It was an outstanding year for me, saw a lot of great deer, just not when I had a bow in my hand.

Anyway, just had the idea for all you other fellers to maybe get together (online) and have a tag-soup night! Maybe make it a Vegetarian Pot-Luck!

For all of you that killed, you can come too, but you cannot bring any photos of deer you killed, or talk at all about any of your successes ;)

I suggest a few contests for:

1) Best missed-opportunity story

2) Biggest buck shot at, but missed

3) Most time spent hunting, without seeing a buck.

4) Best excuse for not killing a buck

5) Best photo of a buck you hunted, but couldn't kill

6) Score of best blown stalk (equation: #inches buck would score * ( 1 / distance in yards away before he booger'd you) ex: 100B&C * 1/20yd = 5.0)

T

ps, there's always next year!

hello - let's spice this post up a bit - What's your favorite recipe for tag soup!

Marinated in rum and grilled to a crispy crunch , then dipped in spicy ginger sauce. but be sure you remove the backing first!

Let's get this pity party started!

I'll throw out my best scores for blown stalks: I missed a shot at a 105in buck on January 1st at 30 yards, that gives me a score of 3.5; but I blew another stalk on the same buck in September at 18 yards; he probably only scores ~95in this year, score of 5.28. Jan 1 was the last time I took a shot at a Coues buck this year (pretty depressing I must admit).

My only excuse for not killing a buck is that I'm neither Silent, or Deadly, when it comes to stalking these critters. Maybe its the other kind of SBD that I'm really good at :P

I'm slow. What is the other kind of SBD that you are talking about?

Let's go hunting together some time and I'll show you.

If I had a tag to fill! I would take you up on the offer. :P

Struck out today so I guess I'm in.

I missed a pig with my bow back in January. Then I spent the rest of Jan. looking for two nice Muley bucks that I had been chasing for about three years. In Jan of 07 I thought I had the bigger of the two. I was at full draw waiting for him to step out from behind a Palo Verde at 18yds and a doe winded me and bolted. he ran of to about 80yds and stopped. Anyway, the last day of the Jan 08 hunt I found out that the same guy got them both. One in the Dec 07. archery season. Then he got the other one in Jan 08. Don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure one was 196, the other was 204. He hunts off a horse. I think that's a big advantage in some of the thicker flatter country. That's my excuse anyway.... So, I spent the entire month looking for deer that weren't there.

Rifle Coues I have a better excuse. I put in with my dad and he just can't get around Coues country so good anymore. We spent most of the season glassing from the road. I think that's probably going to be his last season. :(

The last day I went out by myself and put in a pretty good hike into some of the tougher country. Glassed a nice buck at 640yds. Tried to close the distance but never saw him again.

I just hunted the last 6 days for MD and only saw a goofy looking spike. My worst deer season ever. I need to find some new places. My old stomping grounds have too many houses and too many hunters these days.

Happy New Year!
