Baofeng radios

Recommended Posts

I do….. I have a couple handhelds and a mobile radio in truck. got my amateur license in 2014.  If you’re unlicensed, then really only the FRS frequencies are available to use but the baofengs are technically not allowed on those channels because they aren’t true FRS radios (removable antennas, etc) and transmit >2 watts.

In my truck, I have had conversations from SE valley to Payson and Tucson

GMRS licensing is rather cheap, its by family unit.  I can go from QC to Crown King Towers 575 repeater on a handheld without issue. about 70 miles or so.  Amature radio has a ton of opportunities and has good repeater coverage all over.  I have both licenses and run both in my truck and as well as handhelds too.
