coocoo4coues Report post Posted December 30, 2008 Coocoo, Cool deer for sure! How did you like the Monarchs? Did you get a chance to try them out and glass for a while? AzP&Y The monarchs work great, but they are a bit heavy to use in the field. I'm debating whether or not to return them for the 10x42's. What do you think? AZP&Y Report post Posted December 30, 2008 The monarchs work great, but they are a bit heavy to use in the field. I'm debating whether or not to return them for the 10x42's. What do you think? It is true, they are too heavy to wear around the neck for any length of time and hoofing the hills can be tough with them. I believe you really need to keep the 12x56's and use them exclusively off the tri-pod and occassionally hand held if necessary for short viewing. Then when you get some $$ go ahead and also get pair of 10x42's. I think you need both, but the 12x56's are a must for long distance glassing. The Leupold wind river series in 10x42 is a great lightweight second pair or the Nikon Monach's in 10x42 are very nice as well (not sure of the weight diff on each of those pairs). Best of luck and I'll be behind the Monach's this weekend... AzP&Y
