huntswnm Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Hey guys, Just letting you know that the Gila Gobblers chapter of the NWTF in Silver City has some of the raffle tickets for the one tag that will be given away. They run $10 each and the drawing is March 1st. If you or anyone you know would like one, or two, just send me a message or email the chapter. The only other tag that will be sold is by auction on the NWTF website. The raffle tag is transferable and all proceeds are going to the NM chapter of the NWTF to continue to improve the Goulds habitat in SW NM. Kilimanjaro Report post Posted January 12, 2009 How are the bird pop. doing over that way?? They seem to be doing great here in SE AZ.. Ive seen a TON of them this season while Mearns hunting. If there is a good chance that there will be birds seen, I'll buy a couple of raffle tickets for sure!
huntswnm Report post Posted January 12, 2009 I will tell you, the population is great, unfortunately the majority of them are on private land. NM G&F as well as our NWTF Biologist are working with the landowners hoping that the hunters can get on their land. I was down there 2 springs ago and called in 4 mature toms in one morning. Couple of them on Forest land, couple came up to a county road that went through private. One thing about these birds is that they are all native. None have been transplanted into this area. We are really working hard to get the habitat back in order on the Forest lands. So, to make a long story even longer I would think It would be worth a $10 bill to have a chance at this. You have the entire regular spring season to hunt, April 15-May10. jeff
