TAM Report post Posted December 24, 2008 Congratulations Josh, looks like you guys had a fantastic hunt. Thanks for reminding all of us about what hunting really should be about. I've been to Mexico twice now and will be going back again in a few weeks. I've yet to take a big buck down there, but the country, people, and overall experience keep drawing me back. One of my favorite parts about going to hunt in Mexico is actually coming back! For those of you that have never gone before it is some what of a gut wrenching experience stopping at numerous military check points and letting the Mexican Police and Military officials check your rifles and ammo. In some cases they count every bullet you brought just to make sure it matches up with your paper work. We've never had any troubles but the potential is there and none the less it's still intimidating! It's always a great moment after being gone for a week when you can see the big American Flag flying at the US Port of Entry and you cross back on to American soil. I love being able to watch deer that arent' worried about who or what is coming over the next ridge. The way they move and act towards each other is amazing. And I am with you on enjoying watching the deer interact down there. The buck to doe ratios are so much higher that you get to see more interactions than you generally get to see on state land hunts. You all are just concerned with the antlers and that is just sad... Come on Josh, err I mean Antlerboy, you post up teaser pics of your deer and you're surprised that people wanted to see the rest of your trophies (ie the antlers)? Ease up my friend! I enjoyed the scenery pics as much as anything, but you know you were trying to stir people up about the 'money shots' and you enjoyed all the attention you got . At any rate, congrats on a couple phenomenal bucks. The tine length and character of that first buck is awesome. I really like the gnarled look they have to them. And that 2nd buck speaks for itself man, freaking awesome. You came home with 2 bucks that anyone would kill for. Congrats man, you deserve it. And by the way, the scenery shots were ok Kevin I wasn't trying to act holier than thou by any means by my prior comments it just struck me as odd that not one person responded to the mountain pics. You can ask Jim or Gail, the entire 7 days we drove and hunted around the ranch I kept saying, "LOOK AT THAT CHUNK OF COUNTRY, it looks AWESOME!!!" I caught myself saying that over and over and I couldn't get enough of it. And yes, I LOVED jerking you guys around by not posting the pics and just the teaser pics. Non of the bucks were monsters by any means so I hope you all weren't let down by seeing bucks less than 110". Jim says you gotta pass those 110" bucks to shoot a monster and I'll have to take his word for it but I'm not sure I could pass on one right now. I think Jim was kinda shocked by Gail and I passing on 3 or 4 100-105" bucks on the last day but neither of us really wanted it to end I think. To much fun watching bucks spar and interact with each other Here a doe walked into danger territory without realizing it. There's two young lions laying in the rocks about 15 yards in front of her. She stared that way for probably 20 minutes then got out of there. Lions never knew she was there. One more pic of the whole crew. I was saveing my jealousy over the country you were in for this post.Yeah, awesome , awesome location !I've been in the snow now for weeks up here and really enjoyed the pics, awesome quality pics of an awesome landscape. It looks like you were overlooking a very old water source with washes going in and out for cover accompanied by oaks so they can feed while they travel, accompanied by relatively heavy cover for the big bucks to stay in as well there are pleanty of sparatic "meadows"they can pop in and out of and plenty of hillsides and knolls to use .I'm afraid after a week being there I wouldn't wanna leave man. But you do have the memories so it works out huh. And with those vantage points and that Back country honey hole, it's no wonder you had great success.Good shooting too!!Something urkes me when people fill a 90 lb deer up with 4, .300 mag bullets when usually one should take down an elk but that's just my opinion. Congradulations to you and your friend. My hats off to you!!!! Those bucks are off the freakin charts in every way, as well I'm sure the memories of that hunt will haunt you along with the bucks on the wall, in a good way of course. If you are like me Hunting is a sacred thing. And I'm sure with you're responses to all the posts you are. Once again, Totally awesome job finding and takeing those one of a kind bucks, In that one of a kind place. What a hunt and thanks for shareing! And friggin hillarious pullin everyones chain like that , yeah buncha vultures around here.!!! still laughing. The last laugh is all yours though. Git-R-Done!!!! Too many people tell me the thumbhole is just a novelty that will wear off..........nope! I have always liked em' and love the one I got, like you said, it feels comfortable and natural!
