WFGinNM Report post Posted December 5, 2008 Here is a close up, I know the rock is a bit in the way, but it's shielding some ballistic tip effects. Officially scored 2/7/09 113 7/8". My friend Tom Argyros (the breeze) talked me into putting for AZ coues' this year and I was lucky enough to draw. With gas being what it was and having family obligations I wasn't able to get out in October to scout so we headed to 36B 3 days before the hunt to scout. Tom had a hunt in a different unit so he pointed us to a few spots he would hunt if he had a tag for that unit. Opening morning found us glassing does and spikes, and listening to vehicles all over the place after about 3 hours we decided to go away from the crowds and see what might be deeper. Spotted a decent buck going over a ridge so we waited a bit then followed, and saw 3 bucks and a doe starting to bed down in some thick trees. My friend Michael and I contoured around to get closer and when we looked over the ridge we ranged the buck bedded at 253 yards. I was going to try to shoot the buck bedded but the doe saw us and got infront of the buck I wanted. I put the cross hairs on him and when the doe cleared he stood up and fell right back down into his bed. I had no idea how big this deer was until I got to him, he certainly didn't suffer from any ground shrink. I will be getting him green scored tomorrow, I have a general idea but will wait to say, what do you guys think? The next day we returned to the same area and a pretty good sized lion was eating the gut pile, neither of us had a lion tag, and the pics didn't come out. Here's another picture for Amanda... I couldn't have done this without Tom bugging me to put in for a tag, and was glad to be able to share the hunt with my good friend Michael. Sorry not much of a story, still in shock....... Thanks for looking, --Bill
