crazy4COUES Report post Posted December 3, 2008 I do not agree with baiting deer with actual deer feed and then acting like you are hunting them over the dinner table. At the same I don't see salt as BAIT. However hypocritical it may sound that is how I feel. I have used salt for a couple years and NEVER harvested a deer from these sites. I used them for "scouting tools" to show what type of activity is in the area. I have found that sit on your a$$ and glass to be an effective tool....OH better not say that, they may make that illegal too....!!! All I can say is GOOD LUCK enforcing this one guys!!! All that has been done by most hunters is done on HONOR. Out of respect for the very animal of which we harvest. Now a rancher has the sole right to "BAIT" game with salt....some of which also guide hunters for additional income. B.S. If they have the right so do I!!!!!!! billrquimby Report post Posted December 3, 2008 I seriously doubt that baiting is as effective everywhere as some people believe. We see deer and elk in our yard regularly at our cabin in Greer. About five or six years ago I bought a salt block and a commercial "deer block" from a feed store in Eagar. Squirrels and rabbits hit the salt regularly, and ravens pecked out the corn, oats and goodies from the deer block, but we never saw a deer or an elk touch either although deer often walked within a few feet of both of them. The blocks eventually disintegrated in the rain and snow. Incidentally, was Texas and some of the southern states where baiting has a long tradition surveyed? bowsniper Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Guys, According to a source at G&F, as of this morning (Thursday), they had only received 10 emails/phone calls about the baiting issue. 8 were in favor of the ban, 2 were against. We definitely need more calls/emails into G&F voicing opposition against the new rule before tomorrow morning. Please drop everything and call or email Celeste Cook 623-236-7390 ccook@azgfd.gov and voice your opposition. The commissioners will considering this input tomorrow when they decide whether or not to proceed on the new rule. Please do it now!! Sorry for the duplicate post, this topic has really gotten scattered around several threads. Mark
