deerchaser Report post Posted December 2, 2008 This is my fourth coues buck. He is not the biggest buck I have killed but it was a very memorable hunt. After chasing a real nice buck for 3 days I was getting really frustrated because I just couldn't close the deal. I glassed the same buck up 3 days in a row and I just could not get a shot off. On monday morning I glassed him up fighting with a small 3 point and tried to close in on him as he was about 800 yards away, it just didn't happen. After busting canyons for three days I was getting a little beat and my spirit was a little down. That night I decided to hunt a little lower in the foothills and I just kept telling myself it would happen. My dad met up with me and we started glassing across a small canyon about 350 yards away. Within 20 minutes my dad glassed this buck up at about 4:30 moving across the ridge. He got pumped because he knew it was a decent buck, in all the excitement he lost the deer and we had no idea where was. After glassing for another 10 minutes I actually picked the deer up with my naked eye. There was no place for a rest so I took my spotting scope off the tripod and boom. 30 minutes later I had my buck and it was an awsome hunt. I shot the deer with a 25.06 that I had never used at about 300 yards and I was pretty impressed. It was really cool because I got to hunt with my dad and that hasn't happened in quite some time. Ernesto C Report post Posted December 3, 2008 Congratulations! Good shooting..............a 25-06 is very capable to take a coues up to 400 yards if you are capable and do your home work before the hunt, also is a "flat shooting" caliber. Nice shot nice hunt and having your dad not only awesome........but priceless. Ernesto C
