Elk Scouting

I wanted to thank CouesnCoyotes for his help this weekend scounting. I may have to change my personal statement after this past weekend. I usually don't turn down a horn or nice bear in a canyon. That may have to change after 2 days of packing and near death. Thanks to Mr. DoneyPark for the company on this shoot and antler quest!

Dude, you are the most extreme hunter I know. That pack job out with that monster was by far the most difficult thing I've ever done. Thanks for sharing this great accomplishment with myself and Chris, it's was an experience that I will never forget and hope to learn from to prepare myself for future hunts with you. Congrats to you on a teriffic bear, you diffently put in many hours and all that time and hard work was rewarded with a super trophy.

Congratulations on a great bear! The use of the antler to show him off and show his size really adds to the photos.

Congrats on a fine bear!

What do you mean "near death"?

-Tracy

Well, the hide was 125 lbs alone (weighed at Casey's processing) and the 1.5 mile hike out of the canyon nearly killed me. I have packed out may elk, deer and a 9yr. old sow last year but this bear kicked my butt and kept on punching. We had an additional 90 lbs of boned meat and was able to leave most of the bones. The fat on this old boy was running 3-5" over the entire body. I used a .338 win mag with a 200 gr. nosler balistic tip moving about 3025 fps. All I can say is tough animals.

Hey Grong, I tried to wrestle the horn from him but I had to use a rifle to complete the job. Grongufladge has been working for me finding horns this year bear hunting. I am pushing over the 20 mark since turkey season.
