bgirdler Report post Posted November 25, 2008 I got my first bow ever last week. I went on my first scouting trip a few days later. It is already in my blood! I haven't been hunting in years, and the last time was javelina. I am on a quest ot bag my first deer ever, and do it with my bow no less. I have pretty much settled on unit 33 in AZ as it is close to me and I will only be able to get out for a day or two at a time. Scouted near the Redington area, saw 5 does and found a bigger bedding area and some good sign near a tank. I feel a little lost jsut getting back into this but boy is it fun! Anybody ever want to go scouting with me let me know. I am always up to having experienced people with me, trying to learn all I can!

chshunt Report post Posted November 28, 2008 Welcome to the wonderful world of archery! I've never had so many amazing experiences in the great outdoors as I've had since I've started bow hunting. That being said I've also spent countless hours and days practicing shooting targets & 3d's before I ever thought I was ready to go out and attempt to arrow an animal. Part of being a responsible sportsman means you become proficiant with your weapon before going into the field. Given that you just bought your new bow a week ago I question if you have spent enough time on the practice range to hunt this winter season. I don't want to sound harsh, but I've seen too many animals wounded by people that do not put the time in to practice shooting, bows or rifles. Ry

I too want to be very proficent before i even take my bow a field. I practice everynight adn am not planning on going until January. The only way I would even go in December is if I feel my confidence and skills have grown to an appropriate level. They are not there yet. This is not my first time behind a bow, it has just been a while. I agree that the worst thing I could do is go out unprepared and not have to skills to give the animal the decency of a quick, humane harvest. These are the honest opnions I appreciate from this forum. Thanks!
