GameHauler Report post Posted November 22, 2008 I copied and pasted this from another site Mike Subject: Locking car with keys remotely Snopes approved. I locked my car --- as I walked away I heard my car door unlock I went back and locked my car again three times. I looked around and there were two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. When I looked straight at them they did not unlock my car again. How to lock your car safely: While traveling my son stopped at a roadside park. He came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later and found someone had gotten into his car, and stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, GPS navigator, briefcase and you name it. He called the police, the police told him that since there were no signs of his car being broken into, that there is a device that robbers are now using to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your key-chain locking device.. They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and have a few minutes to steal and run. The police officer said to be sure to manually lock your car door-by hitting the lock button inside the car, that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim it will not be you. When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your key chain- it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be stolen, something totally unknown to us. Please, be aware of this and please pass this note on, look how many times we all lock our doors with our keys, just to be sure we remembered to lock them, and bingo someone have our code, and whatever was in the car can be gone. Keep safe everyone
daryl_s Report post Posted November 22, 2008 I have heard the same about garage door openers. Anybody know anymore about that???? I always lock my house door inside my garage before I go anywhere. I realize that still leaves the inside of my garage vulnerable.
NRS Report post Posted November 22, 2008 A friend lost his brand new truck while on vacation in San Diego several years ago the same way. It was probably across the border before he got his dinner ordered, so this is good advice to remember when you are in any of the cities in southern Arizona. billrquimby Report post Posted November 22, 2008 They don't need to clone anything. With some vehicles (and thieves know which ones) all they need is a heavy screwdriver to break a window, tear open the steering column shield, press the right thingamajig to start the engine and release the steering wheel lock, and drive away. They can do it in seconds I lost a six-month-old pickup Chevrolet truck that was stolen from my office parking lot two weeks before my sheep hunt started in 1994; my wife lost her Cadillac from our carport in the middle of the night three years ago. Our insurance company, Farmers, did well by us, but I cannot say the same about the Pima County Sheriff's Department and Arizona Highway Patrol in the case of my truck. I called within 20 minutes of the theft, and the dispatchers would not alert anyone to stop the truck on the roads south from Tucson. They took my name and phone number and said I should call back at 7:30 pm that evening when the person covering vehicle thefts would return! My truck showed up about a year later when the embassy in Hermosillo, Sonora, called me to say the Federales had turned up with my truck. I had signed the title over to the insurance company long before then, though. Bill Quimby

tommat Report post Posted November 29, 2008 This is what I use on my duramax and most crooks have never seen one http://www.disklokuk.co.uk/products.html Thats pretty neat. I have seen many times people using the club get burned cause the thiefs just cut the steering wheel with bolt cutters and slip it off. Not with that contraption. Plus coming from Europe they would not see it alot.
