I was just wondering how many are not a member of the NRA? And why? I think at these times everybody who gets on this forum should be a member of the NRA.

related note: B.O.'s choice for AG has an opinion that the 2nd Amendment is only for those in the military and has nothing to do with private ownership.

I'm proud to be a card carrying member of the NRA!

I used to be a long time member of NRA, but after I started donating a little money, my mailbox was flooded with letters from NRA begging for more, and it got to be a real turn off.

I am all for the 2nd amendment and the effort NRA puts into fighting for our rights, however, sometimes I feel my money is going to somebodies 6 figure salary and all the wining , dining, and back scratching that the big wigs do. I could be wrong, but that is how I feel.

With our new nitwit president BO, I feel the time is right to add more "strength in numbers" to our cause, and I will be checking out Gun owners of america for sure.

I just joined, thankfully they called me, I had been meaning to join, I signed up for five years for $100.00.

There are very few organizations that actively campaign for gun owners. I am very glad they do, I would rather pay somebody to fight for our gun rights than rely on gun owners. I liken it to the game and fish meetings, only a handful of sportsmen show up to these very important meetings (yes I am one who is absent) I normally have good intentions of showing up.......

I too have been turned off with the constant begging but I did renew just last week. In my discussion with them I found out that you can put your phone number on the do not call list and they will not contact you for any reason - so with that I resigned.

Same as some here, I let my membership lapse because of the phone calls/junk mail etc.... Actually they had called and wanted more money before my membership renewal arrived! Anyways I am a Life Member now and feel it is THE organization that is making the other side think carefully about the moves they make. All gun owners should consider membership. Now is NOT the time for apathy!

I agree 100% with all the "negatives" about being an NRA member. On the flip side I believe they do us gun owners and sportsman a ton more good than harm! There is strength in numbers, and right now we need to be strong!

As mentioned if you don't like the NRA then look into Gun Owners of America. Perhaps do both? Just do something!

Shawn, are you saying that unless one is a member of the NRA they have no right to post on this site. I hope that is not what you are saying. This site is for opinions, it is an open forum, its not the same as saying if you did not vote then you don't have the right to complain.

I feel we do have a responsibility to stand up for our second amendment rights. We can all do that in different ways. Some people may not have the money to join a group like the NRA. All people dont have the extra $60.00 bucks in their pocket to join. Does that mean they don't have the right to speak out on this forum. Those people can help in so many other ways. They can, inform others of their rights and how to stand up for them. They can call their Congress, and Senate reps so they know how their constituents feel.

As for me, I am not a member of the NRA. I am currently researching what group I want to join (NRA, SCI, Gun Owners of America), and that will be my Christmas gift from my wife.

I am with you man. The key is sticking together. The next four years will be the hardest on our rights. It is amazing to me that some gun owners / hunters think that Obama and his administration wont try to take our right.
