gotcouesjr Report post Posted November 20, 2008 Hey everyone my name is Cody and I'm 11 years old. My Dad is gotcoues on the site. He took me and my sister out for our second rifle youth deer hunts. We had youth tags for 33 this year and last year. Although I didn’t get a deer last year, I scored big this year. My sister shot a four by four big boy last year but missed about a 80 plus in. coues this year. : ( [Day 1] We got up around 3:00 so we could get there early. My Dad’s friend Tracy came down from Phoenix to help out, he stayed the whole weekend with us. My Dad’s friend Hank also came out with us on Friday. The drive took about 1 hour 30 minutes to get to our starting point. We set up on a small hill near the truck, we stayed there an hour or two and we saw almost 50 deer, but only a few bucks. My sister was the one who glassed the whitetail bucks. I think there were three so we started heading down the hill. They ran to a hill not to far away but there were many trees around them. We started to try to stalk them but they were gone before we got to the hill next to them. Then we finally went back to the truck for lunch. After that, we went to a tall hill and glassed up small groups of does, no bucks. We went home and dinner was waiting for us. [Day 2] We lost my Dad’s friend Hank for Saturday, but my Dad's friend's sixteen year old son Aaron came with us and Tracy on Sat. We got to our spot about the same time as the day before. We sat on the same hill and soon after we spotted a buck. But no sooner then I get the gun on my back to go stalk him, coyotes started chasing the does around. The buck was not happy at all. He was trying to chase them off by charging at them. He chased them off and went to find the does. We went to the hill and could not find him. So we went to a different hill and saw a couple groups of does. We started down the hill to go and eat lunch when my dad says lets stop and try to glass one more time at those does to see if the buck was with them and not 2 minutes later we see that buck that chased off the coyotes. The only thing was he went up to the top of the hill and went into a clump of trees to bed down with the does right after we spotted him. So we went down to the bottom of the hill and ate lunch. After we ate we crept up to the hill about 150 yards away from the trees they bedded under. We waited 5 hours watching does creep in and out of the clump of trees. I practiced aiming on the does by putting the cross hairs on their shoulders. As you might imagine, how can an 11 year old sit for 5 hours? Well what I did for was wait for him, wait for him and play with ants when I was bored. I was burying them alive. Then finally my Dad says the buck is up and I got really nervous. The buck started walking around and I tried to get him in the scope. Then the most horrible thing happened, the sun was too low and I couldn’t see well through the scope. The buck went over the backside of the hill and I lost all hope in getting him. My Dad wouldn’t let me give up, he said we sat here 5 hours and that I deserved this Deer! So we snuck around a different hill and headed him off. When we climbed and crawled to the top of the hill my Dad found the buck at 103 yards. The first buck I found in the scope was a spike and I told my Dad it wasn’t him. He said to look up ten yards above him and I found the bigger buck. I put the cross hairs on his shoulders, but then my Dad told me to put it on is ribs because he was quartering away. I fired the shot and brought the mighty beast who chased off all the coyotes down. He went down like a ton of bricks and never took a step. When we all walked up to my deer, I felt more happy than when I went to Disney Land! I would like to thank Tracy, Hank, Aaron and my Lil bro Dillon for helping. Most of all I want to thank my two biggest inspirations for hunting, my Dad and my big sis Ashley. Hope everyone loved my story and we all have youth Javenlina tags for January too! Which will be my brothers first hunt! Me and my buck My brother Dillon, my Dad and me Aaron holding my deer up, Tracy on left and my Dad on the right. Me on left and my brother on the right This has been a very exciting experience for me as my first successfully hunt! I'm am so happy the first deer I ever have seen go down was mine!!!!
