Can that trainer be used as a regular pack frame and strap quarters to it? Or is it pretty much only a trainer?any idea how much it weighs unloaded?

The atlas part comes off and is can be used as a pack frame. 

Exact weight is unknown. It's not listed on the sight, but it's pretty dang light.
