Coues&Coyotes

Saturday afternoon yote!

Recommended Posts

Well I had only a couple of hours yesterday afternoon but decided to go out and see if I could call anything in. Was able to get in 3 stands and actually called in one dog per stand. Unfortunaly stand 1 and 3, I didn't realized I had called anything in and got up from the stand to soon (All three stands the dogs came in behind me).

I got this female on No. 2 and kinda funny story on how it unfolded. I had just set down and started calling for about three minutes when as I was calling, the reed blew out of my call and into my hand. Well as I was putting the reed back in the tube I ended up bending the reed backwards into the tube. Well here I am fiddling around with my call, the gun is off to my left when all of a sudden I look up and this coyote comes walking right in front of me at a distance of about 5 feet. Not expecting to see a dog, I remained still and let her continue moving from right to left. I think she knew something wasn't right when she couldn't find the rabbit and started trotting away. At that time, I reached over, got my rifle and followed her to the opposite side of the drainage and at about 60 yards let her have it.

I think if I hadn't had the issues with my call, this dog probably would have busted me just like the other ones that came in from behind me. One reason I perfer to hunt with at least one other person. Enjoy!

It's a Ruger No.1B in a 6mm shooting a 85gr.speer. Yeah the old single shot has been getting quite a workout latley, it's the same gun that Brittany took her deer with a few weeks ago.
