HuntKaibab Report post Posted November 3, 2008 Hey guys im new to this site as well as coues huntin. I have hunted mule deer in arizona for 8 years straight with 0% success. I want me and my son (14) to be able to bag a few bucks next year. Alot of people have told me that there are alot of little coues bucks running around southern AZ, so i was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what units to apply for and good dates to put in for as well. I have only really hunted these deer 1 time many years ago in unit 36B. I had no idea where to go and i saw only 2 bucks a long way off on the last day of the hunt. Any help would be great. otdrsman Report post Posted November 3, 2008 I would suggest buying Duwane Adam's book "How to hunt Coues Deer". It's a terrific read and very informative. You can buy it on this web site! It covers everything from A-Z and breaks down the Coues units. Good luck.
Simple Hunter Report post Posted November 3, 2008 0% success on Carp and you want to try the "gray ghost?" Just so you're clear - you are stepping up the difficulty by huntin' coues - it's not getting any easier. Glass, Glass, Glass and then Glass some more. Then start really glassing and quit moving around. Stay put and stay out all day. - Welcome to the site!
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted November 3, 2008 There is all kinds of info on the main website about how to hunt these deer, where to hunt, and their biology. You can also view hunt draw odds and survey information to help you decide which unit to hunt. www.coueswhitetail.com and look around the menu on the left hand margin to find info you might be interested in. Sounds like you might also benefit from taking a glassing class from Duwane Adams. He is a sponsor of this site and offers some great instruction to hunters about how to hunt these deer. I have heard from many people that his class is well worth the money. Give him a call and see what he can offer you. http://www.arizonabiggamehunting.com/ Amanda
SunDevil Report post Posted November 3, 2008 there is a lot of info on this forum that will help you out. you could spend days researching stuff on here and still only scratch the surface. AZ G&F also has a lot of info on the units, draw stats, estimated success stats, etc. get out this spring and spend a little time in the hills. bucks do not drop their antlers until the end of Apr beginning of May. Feb - Apr is a perfect time to be out in the field scouting for next year, learning roads, etc. good luck!!!

Whitetail are much easier to pattern. Work hard on your scouting trips to make your hunting trip easier and enjoyable. The little deer are very territorial. Thier small stature can make them difficult to see, even when they are right in front of you. Use your glasses and trust your scouting. It's a fun deer to hunt.
