He was still in velvet and 3 other bucks we saw were also still in full velvet. Should be coming off any time. He was bedded down. He thought he was hidden so just froze.

Yuma Outdoorsman Report post Posted October 31, 2022 Can’t get the video to play but these are 3 bucks from last weekend at like 800 yards. Front and back are in velvet and middle one was rubbed. I went out to some new stuff Saturday and didn’t see any deer but did cut a good sized track. 44° in the desert yesterday morning at 6am. Man I can’t wait for opening morning!!

Yuma Outdoorsman Report post Posted November 14, 2022 Well, only does and spikes for me this hunt. Our camp Only manage 1 buck for the hunt and it was an 18” 3x3. We usually hunt the flats but the deer where we hunt were up in the hills. Didn’t realize that until Saturday afternoon and ended up finding does pretty quickly. Today, we spotted 6 different groups of does and fawns and 29 deer total. Only 1 was a buck and it was small spike. Oh well, I know where to go for the rut. We ran into an older gentlemen who said he has hunted this unit for 50 years and when the desert is this green the big bucks go up with the sheep. He said he had glassed up a couple good bucks this weekend but they were too high for him to go after. I talked with people who hunted other desert units around Yuma and it sounds like a lot of people struggled to find deer. Way below average harvest. I know some that were successful and said all the buck they saw were in bachelor herds of 3-5 bucks. I did see the bachelor here of 3 before the season but with all the pressure I am sure they ran for the hills. Looks like I’ll be archery hunting in December. we did see a nice ram looked up high for deer. Pretty cool for the kids to see. 3
