YOUNGGUNZ Report post Posted October 29, 2008 I see what you guys are seeing as far as the "third point", however after watching the buck for the 45 mins to an hourthat we did, I can assure you that it was just a two by. It was an awsome buck to see for sure. Sure did get my blood pumping.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 I see him at 17+ inches wide for sure, but dont see more than 70". You sure thats not a young mule deer? Just kidding, hes an awesome buck! Ida flung some lead at him too!
TAM Report post Posted October 30, 2008 13 inch main beams 4 inch g2's 9 inches mass total 26 x 2 = 52 Inside spread = 14 Grand Total = 66 inches I cant see any eye guards, but if you guys say he's got them then add another two or three inches? Perhaps he'll go 70 but if you guess him at that I think you're setting yourself up for some dissapointment! Just a guess from a guy that's over judged them in the past and gotten kicked in the butt with ground shrinkage.
Coues Archer Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Nice buck i think he will score 81 really good spread.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted October 30, 2008 The picture really doesnt give him what he is. MB - 16 to 17 G1 - 1 to 1.5 G2 - 4 to 5 Mass - 10 Inside Spread - 18 Gross - 80 to 85 I figure he is in the 80 to 82 range, but what do I know I don't want another arguement like we had with Ron Burgandy
matthewp45 Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Definetly in the low to mid 80's. My dad has a buck that is just as wide and goes 17.5". Very thick buck with hardly any tine link and is a 3x3, almost identical except a 3X3 and more mass scores 99". I am with Christain all the way 82".
Tines Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Christian, Nice buck, bro! First off let me say that it shouldn't matter what that buck scores, as long as your happy with him. He's definitely unique and that's just as good as BIG sometimes, IMO. You asked what we think he'll score. I'm guilty of it too, but don't get too upset when someone feels your buck will score less than what you think it will. Someone who frequents this site told me once not to get too caught up in score, because my definition of a trophy is all that should matter. Trust me, that's a hard one to swallow sometimes when I think of how fortunate I am with the tag I landed this year! But it's so true! I'll score him a little bit bigger than TAM, however, I think he's pretty close. I think he's a little wider than 14". Here's a buck that's 16.5" wide. This buck had great mass all throughout and a couple of extra points so he scored a little better, but you get the idea. With that being said, I'm sure we're not getting the best look at your buck. A coues deer with an 18" inside spread is REALLY WIDE! Although it's only 1.5" more than this buck, it's still noticably different. The ears are also a tough one to judge off of. Rarely does a buck lay his ears all of the way out. In their natural state, I'll bet a bucks ears are more like 14", tip-to-tip. And not all coues' ear length are the same. But most are probably about that. You'll notice that as this bucks ears are laid out, he's a tad wider than his ears, and he's still only 16.5" wide. So, if your bucks ears are "relaxed/natural', he's probably closer to 15-16" rather than 18". Am I making sense? Go shoot that buck and give us the details then!!! Kilimanjaro Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Good post, Jake.. Christian, it takes a helluva coues to break 18" inside.. shoot, it takes a really nice regular WT to break 18" inside!!
azcouesandelk Report post Posted October 30, 2008 I know that an 18 inch inside spread is a huge score, but most of you guys know that I spend alot of time out glassing and scouting and hunting and see a good amount of deer. I can honestly say that this is the widest buck I have ever seen in my life and I have seen 2 different bucks go down that were 16 1/2 inches and 17 1/4 inches wide and this buck was wider than both of them. I use the ears as a rule of thumb for scoring saying the average mature coues buck has 14 to 15 inch ears. I know that isn't always a good reference as far as scoring since my buck last year was 19 inches from tip of ear to tip of ear. I may be way off on the score of this buck also it is just my opinion. Hopefully my dad will lay the smack down on him and we will get to see what he really is
Tines Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Tines how much did that buck score? 104" (Obviously thats gross)

Christian, I hope that bucks everything you say he is. What a stud buck to be 18" wide!!! I learn something new every day i'm in the field and as long as we're willing to accept being wrong, if we are, we'll only be that much more prepared the next time we come across a buck like that. I, like you, spend many days in the field and countless hours behind the glass. And I, like TAM, have been fooled before. Even after all of that time spent and all of those bucks seen. I've got a buck that sits at 12" NARROW! His ears are 14" from tip-to-tip. He doesn't look that far inside his ears either........ Good luck with your dad and taking that buck...... COOSEFAN Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Was helping a YOUNGGUNZ and his dad on the first hunt and we found this buck. What do think he will and how wide do you think he is? For reference I've been looking at my "big duece" and since I couldn't remember exactly, I just scored him again and came up with 76 6/8". For comparison here it is....mine is 11 6/8" wide inside and 14" on the total outside, which i got from just below the tips of the G2's.
hunt4horns Report post Posted October 30, 2008 When does he get ground scored ?
Coues Sniper Report post Posted October 30, 2008 Well Christian, I think the main problem here is the angle that people are looking at to score that buck. Very hard to tell much about the width. You've seen him alive, so i believe you when you say he's 18". Coues don't get that wide that often, so it's hard for people to their head around. Here's one Brad Fulk killed in '05 that was right at 18" wide. Pretty unique buck. He killed it off one of his ranches in Mexico, and it went 119 and change if memory serves me.
