out2hunt Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Well boys my eight year old son proved to be tough as nails!!!!!!!! !4 miles over three 90 plus degree days and hours of glassing with the sun brutalizing us we took a meat buck! I had planned to show my son how to do it right. We left camp friday morning at 330 and headed to our spot. We glassed for hours finding nothing but does and fawns adn a single horn spike. w We ate lunch in the shade of a mesquite and pondered what the evening may hold. nothing. Saturday began the same as the day before with a bit more wind involved until about 945am when i glassed up a 2x2 feeding towards the north slope of his hill. After the tough day before and my son with me I really wanted him to see dad in action so I told him of my plan and we embarked. 45min later we jumped the buck out of his bed ind i dropped to one knee and showed matthew how its done!!! 140 yards on the run through the front shoulder and heart. Matthew screams "you got him dad!" and the elation ran through me! We had successfully taken a coues! He's not my biggest but all said and done its my most fufilling hunt to date!!!! I have a new hunting partner for life!!!! Thanks to all on this site that have helped over the years and to duane adams for my glassing techniques!!!! pics to follow

CouesKilla Report post Posted October 27, 2008 That is exactly what got me hooked on hunting. When I was 13, I watched my dad down a coues in unit 29 (back when it used to be cold on deer hunts). I thought it was the coolest thing ever, and I've hunted deer every year since. Must be a great feeling for you.
