dang lions

Recommended Posts

If you look up the USFS info on lions, they talk about the body language the cats will display when they want to eat you. Basically, once they start crouching and staring right at you or come walking up towards you, its time to shoot to kill or throw rocks --whatever you can do. They can close the distance real fast.

How come every time i carry a lion tag there are none in the state and the minute i take it out, they pop out like rodents????

Just the way it works i guess

Sorry for the dumb question, but I am new to hunting. Are lion tags over the counter? If so, how much are they? I plan on going way up high on our hunt next weekend where there are known lions in the area.

Thanks

Yes, lion tags can be purchaced over the counter. Lions are at every elevation in this state. I just had my 13th lion spotting this week and harvested my 3rd on Monday. Good luck on your hunt. Watch your back side.

As far as I know firearms aren't allowed in Madera Canyon either? I'm a bit confused.

As far as lions go if any of you guys stumble onto a lion or find one on a kill or something and we can get to it in a timely fashion. I'd be glad to catch it with my hounds and let you harvest it, I don't guide so it would be free of charge. I have friends in the ranching business and lions hit em hard. Lion tags are over the counter, 1 per person, there are also quota units around the state where they are thick enough that a person can kill 15 in a year if they wanted. Mainly because of the damage they are doing to big horn sheep populations.

they cost $14.50 and every good hunter should buy one when he gets his license. and you guys need to get houndchasers number and call him up if you find a kill. it's a great time and a chance at a great trophy and they really do need thinned out some.

i don't know about all the body language stuff, but if a lion is close enough that i can shoot it, i'm gonna. i know they do a lotta hissin' and pissin' when you put em up a tree. i've had several try to put this child under and i was too busy shootin' at em to look for body language signals and stuff. i ain't too afraid of one myself. them or bears. they usually just want to get away. Lark.

I know that language all tooo well from past experience. When they get in that posture they are not easily turned away. Whatever you do, DO NOT run or turn your back on one in the crouched and stalking posture. If attacked, you must fight back if you are to have any chance.
