firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Scottyboy and I had plans to head out to a place in 32 to try and find some deer. The day started out rough, I had a guy call in sick at work so I didnt get off as early as I would have liked. To make matters worse, 2 minutes after we get on the freeway, we slow to a crawl! THEN, we couldnt find the right road to the base of the mountains! After we got the truck as close as we could, we headed off to a distant, dark saddle. I think we had about 20 minutes of hiking in before the head lamps clicked on. After I took several spills, and 4 hours later, we made camp! Here is Scott making an MRE at camp. Not really knowing if we were where we wanted, we stayed quiet that night and woke up as soon as the light went from black to grey. We woke up on cloud nine... The night had been windless, 0 moon, and we were in Coues country!! About an hour into glassing, Scott glasses up a small 3x3 walking just below the bluff from left to right. We watch that buck and make sure his big brother isnt with him.. Hes not. A few more hours reveals nothing but good looking country. In the evening, I glassed up the same buck actually getting out of his bed. Too bad he wasnt a big buck, as we had him on lock down! After a few minutes of talking, we opted to haul arse out instead of sleeping on the ground again. Snapped a few pictures, and off we went!

Snapshot Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Nice looking country. I think I would have a hard time keeping up with that marathon running machine, AKA Scottyboy.
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted October 27, 2008 It was a bust hunt in some really good looking country.. We went in quite a ways up into the range, and were in a great glassing spot that you could see ALOT of great country, but we only came up with one tiny little 3X3. When that was the only deer we saw in an all day glassing session, I threw in the chips and called it. No sense in staying for that.. I wont be trying that unit again.. Guess I'll stick to the 36 units that I know well. At least it was fun to see some new country and climb around in it, so it wasn't all bad! It sure felt good to get out and deer hunt! Not all's lost though.. I've got a Mexico hunt in Jan!!
COUESAZ Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Good choice stick to the 36 units. Let 32 to those that were raised in it. We know there are no deer in 32 but we sure love to draw it. Great pictures of your trip.
