coueselk Report post Posted January 3, 2005 This is a question to all of you that hunt Mexico frequently. Have any of you ever lost any equipment, especially optics, to searches by Mexican authorities? What I mean is, some not so good people that take a liking to what you have and take it away from you. I feel a little uneasy taking $3500 of optics down into a country that we really don't have any rights in. Just concerned about loosing something that would take years to replace again. blaserman Report post Posted January 4, 2005 I have been around the world hunting from my experiences, you need to carrie any thing of value , binos, spotter, camera, camcorder etc in your carrie on bag if you fly. I think driving you should not have problems. I have never heard of any problems of this nature. Blaserman
couesaholic Report post Posted January 4, 2005 I just got back from a mexico hunt. Every thing went real smooth at the border. The army does check your equipment pretty good, mainly guns and ammo boxes. I felt like you before I left, but now it wouldnt bother me. Good luck and have a safe trip
coueshunter Report post Posted January 7, 2005 I have only went twice but really havent had any problems with the Mexican side of the deal, our own united states agencies are more of a concern. I am going on the 15th of Jan. and have called USFW to make sure there are no new regulations. It seems like Mexico and the U.S. have made it easier and more straight forward so there should be less problems for people this year.......thanks......Allen...... More D Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Great question! I go to Hermosillo about 4-6 times a year and at least one of those times I go scouting, target shooting, help on a hunt, etc. When I have taken my binos, camelback and stuff. The Aduana (customs) has seen my stuff and eather don't care or don't know what it is. I know of one time at a Federal check point a FEDERAL found the 10X42 Swaros and knew what they were and pulled them out and look thru them and said " these are nice......will you give them to me? My cousin answered "I can't" and that was it, he smiled and said they could go. But I also don't take any camo, not that its illegal but I would rather not waste an hour while they search my truck. One thing to remember is: YOUR KNIFE. If you carry one 24/7 like me just be carefull. They are illegal. Different cops tell me different. Some say all are illegal, some that pocket knifes are OK. When I go I take a small "harmless" looking folder. I have been hunting in Mexico but not with an outfitter. I hunt at friends and familys ranches and as I under stand it might be "not the correct way" I DO have permission from the land owner.
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted January 14, 2005 I just returned from my Mexico hunt, went thru 3 check points, one on the way to my hunting place and two returning back home.No problems at all.The aduana check point did not even check us,on the way back home we get to a military check point,we told them we were hunting, they checked the gun transportation permits and the gun and that was it,they were very polite;later we got to a Federales check point (usually this check point is never there) same thing they checked tha gun transpontation permit and the gun and that was it,nobody checkend the ice chests or clothing or the back of the truck nothing they only checked the gun and permit for the gun and that was it,no problems at all. Hey Danny how about you?? What was your experiende thru the check points? Did they ever noticed your expensive glassing equipment. Ernesto C
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted January 14, 2005 How did you mexico hunt go Ernesto?
coueselk Report post Posted January 15, 2005 No problems through the checkpoints. Never even got searched until I came back into the US. I did give the young lads some elk meat at one of the Mexican Army checkpoints. I guess that is why they just waved me through coming back.
