Weekend scouting trip

Recommended Posts

Well, I spent the weekend down south scouting. I was a little nervous to stay down there alone as nobody could go with me. I was going to spend the night Friday night, but I didnt look forward to setting up the tent at night, or spending two nights alone down there. So I headed out Saturday morning a little later than I had planned. I was in no hurry as I had all weekend.

My hunting partner.. "Can we leave yet Bubba?"

I got to the glassing spot and started lookin for deer. Found some does and small bucks, but nothing interesting.

I spent the next few hours driving new roads and finding new glassing spots.

In the evening, I went back to an area that I know the deer frequent quite often. I was glassing East, few deer spotted... As soon as I turn to the West, I see a shiny arse... Followed shortly by a nice, long, wide shiny main beam! Woohoo!! I get about 200 yards closer, and try to take some pictures.. They didnt turn out all that well, but here is the best one (Just for you Hector!) Hes a pretty good buck, nice and wide and a straight, typical 3x3. I call this one "Guero" because of how white his antlers are.

I watch him and his buddy until I can no longer see them.

This morning, I head back to the same place and try to find them again. I found 4 more bucks on the same hill side. I am not sure if this biggest buck of this group is the same one from last night. He had the same type of frame, but was about 4-5 inches narrower than "Guero". I managed to get some OK video, and some decent pictures of this buck... The name for this buck is up in the air... "Guapo" because he is such a perfect 3x3, with a perfect cape... Or "Dont shoot me in the head".. I cant decided :D

Here are some pictures and video.

I have an early Nov. 36B tag and also went scouting this last weekend also. I know what you mean about going down there by yourself. Can be kind of spooky sometimes. I will say the border patrol seems to have really changed their tactics this year in my hunting spot! They were everywhere! I was spotting them out walking through the desert mid day wearing jackets and insulated pants!!! These guys are animals! I did see a few border jumpers but no drug smuggler's this time. If you ever want someone to scout with hit me up, I have all my own Swaro's and cool toys, heck I even have a few of my own honeyholes! I will be down there this weekend also trying to locate some larger bucks.

There are still big bucks alive!!!!

This buck is really hard to see, more so the "Guero" (RIP) but hes a stud for sure, pushing and probably topping 100"

Thanks for the report. Nice doe and fawn pic....how close were you on that one?

Does your dog ride on the ATV while you are driving it? I was out the other day and not sure how to put my dog on it. I figure I would have to hold her or she would fall or jump off.

Hey, if you had turned that CW hat a little more toward the camera that would have been a neat pic!
