Crazymonkey Report post Posted May 5, 2022 Putting together parts and such for a 280ai and could use some scope advice.First off the rifle will be for hunting,long range eventually.I currently don't get enough time at the range to shoot long but want the ability to do so when I can slow down and put in the range time.I'm currently comfortable out to 400 to 500 . My build specs are a rem 700 long action bdl bottom metal,proof sendero light 26 inch barrel,and a manners -lrh stock ,and a trigger tech trigger.If my math is good I'm at 7.43 pounds and would like to finish in the 9.5 to 10.5 range .I'd figure with the cost of the build I could run a scope in the $3 to 4 k range max.I'm a moa guy and don't like vortex so I figured I've got a good budget and as long as the wife doesn't find out how much I'm planning on spending I'm good to go.Scopes I do have are a few leupold,a ziess or two ,and a few nightforce a shv and a atacr.I forgot the 13 oz can on the end of the barrel .That puts me over 8 pounds no scope. AZAV8ER Report post Posted May 5, 2022 Hi Crazy; I did something similar with a 6.5C with a goal a bit shorter than yours. My aim was max about 500 yards with a BRUX #4 barrel and Leupold VX6 HD scope, 9 pound 9 oz rifle, a nice balance between cary weight and a stable shooter. For my needs a NightForce is not what I would choose but for your goal of shooting farther I would recommend the NX8 4-32X50. It fits your weight requirements, comes in MOA and FF1 at a not to astronomic a price. My experience with the NX8 in competition has been awesome. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
HNTNGUY Report post Posted May 5, 2022 A little heavier than what you're after, but my scope of choice is the ATACR F1. I have them on all of mine from the 4-16 to the 5-25 and love them. Lance would be a great person to ask. HuntHarder Report post Posted May 5, 2022 I went Zeiss v6. I like nightforce, bit they are too heavy for me. The ATACR atleast has good glass, the nxs and lower are not optically impressive to me. I've not had any problems with Zeiss's tracking and repeatability either. Zero stop, sfp, insanely clear glass and not 30 Oz.+ 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Crazymonkey Report post Posted May 7, 2022 I currently have a Nightforce 5x25x56 atacr on my 7-08 and a ziess on a ruger #1 .Don't have any experience with tangent or zero compromise.I've seen a few nx8 scopes come across the classified and am curious as to why? They seem like a good scope at a good value .Tho I haven't looked thru one yet.I figured I'd get the best scope I can while I'm working my a** off and can afford it.The days of 12 hr shifts and 7 days a week are getting harder and harder to keep up with at my age. Not sure if it was worth it ounce to $$ ratio, but I love it. R700 LA trued (make sure you square it up and recut the threads) .250" pinned recoil lug Bolt fluted TI firing pin and Wolff Blitzschnell spring Alloy bolt shroud Carbon fiber bolt knob Nitride action 26" 1:9" Proof Sendero Light Manners EH1 R700 BDL alloy bottom metal w. R700 box, spring and follower Timney Calvin Elite @ 8oz Seekins alloy 20MOA Picatinny rail Seekins alloy 30mm "Medium" .87" rings Here is my scope suggestion, and what I run on my .280AI. For a FFP scope, If you have a $4k glass budget and want the best glass you can get with amazing turrets and enough elevation to reach out there....Tangent Theta TT315M 3-15×50mm. They come in either MIL or MOA. 27oz. They "only" have 12MIL or 40MOA of usable elevation adjustment, but run those numbers, and you should have enough to reach out to around 1300-1500 depending on your load. I have shot mine out to 1500 with my load. My rifle is 8lbs 15oz scoped. 9lbs 12oz scoped and suppressed. If you ever want to look through a TT315M, let me know. Lri or kampfield custom seems the place for that or did you opt for a ptg?That's a great offer on looking thru the scope .I need to take you up on that .My schedule sucks I'm currently 7 days a week midnight to 1230 Mon-Fri and midnight to 11 sat-sun .Now if l could just put my hands on the stock .Its one thing to pick it out from a picture but it's another to hold and check comfort.Once I get all the parts its off to Keith at Phoenix custom or axis works they bolth are outstanding gun builders.
