AverageJoe Report post Posted April 23, 2022 Anyone out there who can help identify what this is? I have a bunch of guesses, but curious if anyone knows for certain. Seems like possibly a quartz base with yellow / amber colored crystals growing out of it.

Edge Report post Posted April 23, 2022 That's a terrible picture, did you take the rock home and clean it up? Looks like a possible piece of flowstone, calcium carbonate. If it is, put some vinegar on it and there will be a reaction. Slight possibility of asbestos, any loose fibers? Better pics please.

forepaw Report post Posted April 23, 2022 You might google asbestos, naturally occurring, before you carry it around. The major ACMs in nature I believe are amosite, chrysotile and tremolite. Spelling rough, but you get the idea.
Jimmer Negamanee Report post Posted April 24, 2022 I don't know what that is but I do have a geology meme to contribute. (It's difficult to find a segue for a geology meme.) Did you have to dig for it or was it just lying on the surface? Let us know when you get confirmation. 1 1
