yotebuster Report post Posted October 15, 2008 Hello, just wanted to introduce myself, I moved down here in august from North Dakota to go to dental school in Glendale. I'm a huge bowhunter, for whitetails and goats back home, as well as elk in montana and colorado. Also a big waterfowl hunter to, if any of you guys are looking for advice on that type of hunting up there, let me know, I can get you pointed in the right direction. Looking to start doing some hunting around here, put in for a 6A javelina tag today (archery), just kinda threw a dart at the map I guess , its a close unit to Glendale, and there seems to be everything in that unit from elk to coues to quail. Any input on coues hunting up there? I won't be able to apply till next year, but hopefully will get to see my first coues when im up there for javelina (hopefully see my first one of them too!!!) Looking forward to getting to know all of you, and again I hate constantly asking ?'s without being able to offer help in return, so if you ever need info on waterfowling, pheasants, deer, or montana elk let me know. Tucson John Report post Posted October 15, 2008 Hey Yotebuster, welcome to Arizona and CWT! I don't know much about Javi or Coues in 6a, other than they are there. I do most of my hunting for those critters farther south. I lived in Whitefish for several years and miss Montana. I'll most likely take you up on your offer for advice in the future. CouesKilla Report post Posted October 15, 2008 I've never hunted 6a for anything other then elk. If there are pigs in that unit, know what they eat. Focus on areas with prickly pears and shin daggers. I have seen pigs as high as 5500 in unit 29. If you spot some know that they will be there next time you go back. They are very territorial. Red Rabbit Report post Posted October 15, 2008 Welcome, The AZ game & fish website has some general info on where to hunt each species in each unit. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units.shtml For javelina in 6A, you might look at the base of the rim from West Clear Creek to Beaver creek east of I-17 to Dry Beaver creek west of I-17. Also Sycamore Canyon and along the road to Childs from Camp Verde. Good luck. You can buy an OTC archery coues tag and hunt in Jan, since you had to buy your license for the javelina tag. Unfortunately, you cannot hunt coues or muleys in 6A in Dec or Jan. Better coues unit are south of Tucson and will be open to Jan archery deer.
