Trijicon Credo vs Nightforce SHV

Recommended Posts

Credo HX 2.5-15x42

SHV 3-10x42

I’m looking for a lighter weight scope for my Kimber 308 (sub 24 oz).  Likely won’t be shooting it past 500 yds.  I think I narrowed it down to one of these scopes. Most important characteristic is reliability and toughness.  Any experience with either of these?

Open to their suggestions as well.

Other considerations may be:

1) the made in Japan Vortex HD LHT  https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-razor-hd-lht-3-15x50-riflescope.html

2) Tract Toric 3-15x42  https://tractoptics.com/all-products/toric-uhd-3-15x42-bdc-rifle-scope   or 2-10x42  https://tractoptics.com/all-products/toric-uhd-2-10x42-t-plex-rifle-scope  Also made in Japan.

I had the Tract 3-15 on my 28 Nosler which was sold in a fit of destitution.  I liked the clarity and the reticle stood out well. No mechanical problems.

Looked through a SHV 5-20 at Sportsmans.  Took it outside with a Zeiss V4 for comparison.  I and friend were completely unimpressed with the clarity/resolution of the Nightforce.  Maybe it was a bad copy considering the good rep that NF has.

For the price of the Credo, you may look at the Nightforce NXS C458.

Second focal plane with parallax adjustment and zero stop turret. In 2.5-10x42 and a 30MM tube, it fits spec.

Bulletproof reputation for being, well...bulletproof.  I'm looking at this for a lightweight sheep build.

I had a V4 on order but reading some the issues with retaining zero if dropped made me cancel the order.  Glass clarity is not at the top of my wish list. It would be nice to have but reliability and rugged build is my top consideration.

I had an LHT. Sold it

I would add Ieupold vx5 3-15 to your list as well. I don’t shoot over 5-600 and they’ve been great for me. Even the vx3 cds have worked very well and they are extremely light.

just out of curiosity, what did you not like about the LHT?  I have a couple of these and they seem to dial and hold zero after several hundred rounds fired but I did have to send back two so definitley not perfect.  I did get the replacement back in a week but makes me nervous for mountain hunts.

My last rifle got a Zeiss V6 3-18x50.  IIRC it is 22 oz.  Redhawk rifles has them for 1500ish demo.  Pretty hard to find a bad review of them.

I’ve got a Zeiss duralyt 3-12x50 30mm I’d maybe consider selling.  They don’t make them anymore, it’s one of the good German made ones.

Thanks, but I bought a NF SHV already.

Are you still running the NF? Im considering getting one for a 7mm. I want to start shooting a little longer and get better at dialing. I do want to be able to clearly identify animals through the scope at 500yrs minimum. I hear some say clarity is good and some say not impressed

Yes, I have it on a ultralight rifle…. Kimber 308. I have the 3-10 which is plenty for a 308. Rifle, scope and rings come in at 6 1/3 lbs.  I had several smaller coues in my scope at 650 yds last Nov and would have felt comfortable taking that shot with 10x but this year i’m bringing my 6.5 PRC with 16x Trijicon

Only gripe about the NF is the reticle  Can be tough to see in low light without lamination or in daytime brush
