Water Source

Recommended Posts

I've been scouting and it seems there isn't a lot of water in some areas, yet I am seeing deer. Also, I've been seeing a lot of does and fawns but no bucks. Can I assume there are bucks in the area? This Coues deer hunting has got me hooked , having hunted mulies all my life I am thirsty for knowledge about these beautiful animals.

Do coues deer have an adaptation when it comes to water For example; a tortise gets a lot of its water from the food it eats. Is it the same with the coues or does it have to have a water source like a pond waterhole or stream? If so does it have to water daily?

Deer need free standing water for drinking. There is probably a water source within a 1/4 mile of where you see the most deer. Sometimes the water sources are not on the map. I have found old mine addits that are holding water so if you have mines on the map, you might look around there for a water source. There also might be a pool of water in a creek somewhere that lasts year round.
