Scouting Unit 36B 10/11/08

Recommended Posts

Well the plan was to go down to hunt unit 36B and do some scouting for our up coming deer hunt. The area we scouted is about 20 miles west of I-19 and about 3 or so miles north of the US/Mex border. I have hunted this area every year for that last 10 years or so and like the area. the percise location I cant give out or I would have to find new hunting partners. I'm sure some of you will know the area just from the pictures.

As you can see from some of the pics and vids, the weather did not agree with this idea for the most part. If it was not raining then it had just finished or was getting ready to start again most of the day. The wind was also a huge factor in the days events as it was blowing all day long hard enough to keep the critters bedded down and the fog restricted the glassing in the first part of the day.

Not all was lost though, we did some glassing ,but mostly ventured into new areas we have not hunted before and revisited other areas to scout out the water holes for water or no water. All in all it turned out to be a pretty nice day. We saw alot of does (mostly bedded) but had no luck with seeing any bucks on this trip anyway.

If you have scouted this unit this year post up on what you saw.

And then the nice weather we had for most of the day. It did clear up later in the afternoon though.

Brent, in about 2 good hours of glassing, we managed 18 deer but only 2 bucks. It got down to 35 out there! It was a PERFECT morning!!

Good job on the 2 bucks you glassed up, but I'm just wondering. What part of the unit where in that it was a perfect morning? I know where we were it was not suitable for glassing in the morning. I'm not saying my trip was not a good trip, as a matter of fact it was a great trip and concidered successfull. ;) ;)

That is some real good looking country, more pics please. No skyline shots necessary, I'm just getting pumped for the late Nov. hunt.

Thanks,

I like the rough nasty country, if someone else is in there hunting I don't mind sharing with them cuz I know they busted their butts just as much as I did.

That is some great country WinMag, the hill in your 3rd photo almost always has deer on it. Good luck on your hunt.

Here is a photo of some of the type of country I really enjoy glassing.

Went out to 36C this weekend. Sunday morning was perfect. Cool, Clear and very little wind. I hope we're that fortunate in November. Saturday...now that was a different story - there were wind gusts that almost blew me off my feet. We did manage to find some deer though. Not the one we're looking for but still have a few more days to find him before the hunt.

It seemed like every doe that had a fawn with her had two. I've never seen that many twins before. If they're allowed to grow it should be pretty good in a few years.

In this photo the far ridge there is a small bunch of Mesquite trees, last year we glassed a very nice buck from that point. He was laying right where I took this photo from, the hillside was very open and he all but disappeared on it.

God I love that country,

These are photos of the same canyons in July and then in October. Amazing how things change.
