Guest Desert View Report post Posted October 10, 2008 I know we all love talking about coues deer, so here is a story about the youth hunt this morning, we glassed up some pretty good bucks, probably 85 to 90" this morning, so off after them we went, got up around 250 yds of them and I asked my son do you want to shoot one of these bucks and he said yes, so while he was looking through the glass at them I turned and scanned the flats to were we just came, and this is what we found, I do believe we made the right choice. grizzly Report post Posted October 11, 2008 Thats a horrible decision for a first deer. First deer should be little spikes, or button bucks, or even a doe! How do you improve on that? Could be a disappointing hunting career for that kid for a long time now.

Could be a disappointing hunting career for that kid for a long time now. So is what your saying is you would have passed that deer up? Well if you would have, you are a better man than everyone else, yes it was a very big deer for his first, but I can tell you speaking for my kids, and the way I have raised them, he could go out and shoot and 80" coues deer and be just as happy, or even a nice two or three point, yes he may never get to kill a 170 class buck again but he can at least say he killed one!
