Recommended Posts

last year a 402" bull was taken just outside of Willcox. it was taken on opening day and was with some cows. his buddy had another tag and hunted the rest of the hunt and never saw another elk. sorry but I can't help you out because those guys have the same tag this year.

There are resident elk in the salt cedar jungle between Safford and the Res that never leave the river bed and never see the light of day. Good luck getitng them out of there though.

I was thinking the exact same thing, at the time that particualr hunter worked for my dad and it sure is a beautiful bull, Weller's did a great job on the mount! That is if this is the same bull? I know I didn't hear about any other bull of that caliber being taken....as a matter of fact I only heard of one cow being taken besides this bull. I spend a lot of time down there and have only seen a handfull of elk over the last 12 years.

I took a cow in 31, 2 years ago. Its a really, really, really tough hunt. I have also hunted in 28 and have seen sign but no elk. Heard of elk being located in 32, somewhere from the 31/32 dividing road but not sure where at. Good luck if you decide on the tamaracks. Take a 30-30 without a scope and practice shooting from the hip.

I'm not sure where the elk are at anymore. Lots of rain, lots of feed. Its not a real big herd out there, so trying to find one is like finding a needle in a haystack. Good luck to you.
