ctafoya Report post Posted January 31, 2022 I'll be heading to a jobsite on a mine in Southern AZ and I'm trying to get everything needed. The guys I've been talking to down there aren't really sure on everything. Theybare more office types. Here is a list of what I think I need Inspection. Will be done at the mine when I get there. Flag, 10 ft from the ground? Lighted? Wheel chocks. 5 lb extinguisher. First aid kit. Strobe, but what color? Lights wipers breaks etc all work. Any help would be appreciated. I have a small window to aquire everything and an even tighter commissioning schedule.
10Turkeys Report post Posted January 31, 2022 MSHA has a website. Check the height on that flag. Might want to call where you are going, most places have a site specific in addition to MSHA regs.
Petey Report post Posted January 31, 2022 All you should need is an inspection and chocks to be MSHA compliant.. with everything in working order. The rest is not required by MSHA but may be by the mine site you plan on entering. Fire extinguisher, first aid, strobe light are all optional where I work.. Only thing you may be missing is a backup alarm. Again, I don't think it's necessary but may be by the actual mine requirements and if installed has to be working. Good luck with these guys, its a bummer they can't be more help. Sorry I can't be either but you're on the right track.. if you can have it all you should be more than covered
galiuro mountain man Report post Posted January 31, 2022 Where I work, a buggy whip has to be lighted. Where I work the only time a strobe is required for light vehicles is if they are helping pull hdpe pipe, carrying explosives, or a personnel transport (van, bus). Inspection sheets, which is basically checking the vehicle for safety items, your office type people you know should be able to send an example of theirs. The rest of the list looks good. You may want to see if you have to have any ID on the vehicle. I would call whoever is your contact for the job to clarify.
PRDATR Report post Posted January 31, 2022 What are you commissioning? Can you drive to the mine then have them provide a grunt drive you around in one of their vehicles? What did you or your company bid? Are you the Commissioning agent and have you done this before? Not trying to ding you but something is way out of wack here. I hope your're not too far in over your head.
Big or Bust Report post Posted January 31, 2022 Don't forget to get there way earlier than you need to in order to suffer through a safety video... I was on and off mine sites for years. Good luck.

I hope your're not too far in over your head. Small ultra filter system. Could have a grunt drive me around but relying on someone else always gets you screwed. I got stuck on Base at 29 palms a few weeks ago for an extra 6 hours by relying on someone else to drive me around. We bid an Ultra filter. Yes, I am commissioning, and yes, I have done this before. Why does something seem out of wack, and why would I be in over my head?

Edge Report post Posted February 1, 2022 Rules, ick. I spent last Sunday as a guest on a patented hard rock mine, a ribbon cutting. I was asked to sign a waiver but I forgot. can only give you some advice. Once you get to the mining operation, keep your head on a swivel.
Calamado_Guey Report post Posted February 1, 2022 Ask your site contact in the office to put you in touch with their safety dept before you drive down. They will have all the accurate info you need to be on site. Get them to email you something if possible that you can reference. All mine sites have local policies and protocols in addition to any MSHA requirements. Also,Not many properties are Keen on first time visitors driving around different areas with out some type of escort. Hope this helps.

Why didn't you email these questions to the Power At Be months ago? You don't seem to be qualified to be there. I'm sure you know your particular trade but to be begging for help on a hunting forum in lieu of going through the proper channels and having your ducks in a row before you show up andpotentially getting yourself or others hurt and not having a clue really hangs you out there. What certs do you have? At a minumum OSHA? I'm not jumping your chit but this isn't the place to be doing the research. I've been working classified and industrial site for 40 years so I know a little bit about protocols and have been the Safety Officer and Trainer for some pretty big projects with multiple contractors under me as well as the PM for GSA and Defence contracts. This is the campfire. Anyone can ask anything they want. I am not self-employed, doesn't have any relevance. I get sent to where the jobs are on very short notice, so that is why I didn't email months ago. Not qualified? I've been in my trade over 20 years. Name one tradesman that has always known everything and never had to ask a simple question. Go on, I'll wait. Go back and find where I was begging for help. I asked a few questions. This is an attempt to get my ducks in a row before I show up at a job site that will more than likely not have their chit together anyway based on my preliminary conversations with them yesterday. Seeing how that couldn't even tell me with 100% certainty what equipment was required on my truck is a good indication I am correct I can tout all my certs, qualifications, projects I have managed, been a part of too, but that is not the point of my original post. I just asked a few questions as I have not driven a POV on a mine site before. Glad to see that you usually chit on everyone else's threads too. Maybe one day you can quit being a douche every time anyone posts anything.
