corkin it Report post Posted January 20, 2022 Good morning all, Im in NM and have 8 points. Im ready to try and draw Az finally. Im just wondering what I can possible get for 8 points? I prefer bow and muzzleloader but would be happy with a rifle tag. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to put in for something I have no real chance at. Im hearing you need 14 points or more but Ill probably be dead by then:). Thank you! Jake
Crazymonkey Report post Posted January 20, 2022 My dad drew a outa state tag with no points for muzzleloader in 6a for bull and the next year got the cow tag .archery hunts are a hard draw for in state and I'm sure almost impossible for most outa state . rossislider Report post Posted January 20, 2022 As a non resident, 8 points won't get you much. Just pick a hunt you like, apply, and hope you get lucky. That is the only shot you have for a long time at any of the better hunts.

1uofacat Report post Posted January 20, 2022 Maybe you should wait another 8 years to apply so you feel better about your chances! 😁
yotebuster Report post Posted January 20, 2022 You could draw 7e or 11m September archery. 3b November muzzy or a 4,5,6,7 or 8 late rifle tag. Just depends on what you want out of your hunt. Should be able to kill a bull on any of those if you aren’t super picky.

Normally I’d tell people to actually search the points they had last year to see if they’ll draw but in the case of these hunts there’s a lot of tags and not much demand so the point creep isn’t out of control. Some are still 10% draw, but technically in the pass.

Roosevelt Mark Report post Posted January 21, 2022 I thought it would need more. I know a resident that didn't draw 4a with that many points.
Big Tub Report post Posted January 21, 2022 There is no accounting for bad luck, though. I have had one early bull hunt and an antelope before the bonus points were instituted. I have had one antelope since and no early bull. If it were not for max points, I may have never been drawn for sheep.

I think your buddy messed up on his app. A lot of times guys think they know what their choices were but are wrong or don’t know how the draw works and put an elk hunt as a third through fifth choice. AZHunter1 Report post Posted January 23, 2022 It's a drawing! It takes a little bit of luck to win the draw. Just sayin
