drcarr Report post Posted December 21, 2021 Not attempting to be critical of locksmiths...I am just providing a sincere FYI that anything involving a mobile locksmith may be costly...last week I used the services of a Tucson Arizona, bonded and certified, locksmith to open a friends locked gun safe...I was charged a $75 "travel" fee and a $75 "lock combination recovery" fee...The "lock technician" stated that those fees were the usual going rate for the Tucson area...When my friend's wife requested that the "lock technician" assist her in opening the safe he informed her that an additional fee would be charged for "teaching her how to open the safe"... Because there had been no mention of an additional fee to assist the friend's wife in opening the safe the additional fee was waved by store management...Don't know if tacking on additional fees is a standard industry practice; however I think it important to nail down all of the costs at the time of setting an appointment... Good luck on getting your safe repaired......
Crazymonkey Report post Posted December 21, 2021 In the scope of things when I bought my liberty and got the e-lock they said check and change the battery once a year or its $200 bucks for them to open it .it sucks that they weren't honest with the total cost and to charge to show the lady how to open the safe .for the few minutes it takes to show a person how to correctly spin the dial .fyi my wife has the combo card for my other safe and still can't get the right ,left, right thing figured out hence the e-lock on the newer safe.
HuntHarder Report post Posted December 21, 2021 150$ charge to drive to someone's house and help them recover a lock combo seems cheap to me. How much do you think a traveling locksmith should make an hour? I'd say atleast 50$ an hour for the tech, the company also needs to make money, that doesnt leave a whole lot of meat on the bone once you factor in fuel, maintenance, insurances, benefits. Welcome to inflation, shoot's gonna cost more, especially specialized services.
drcarr Report post Posted December 21, 2021 While I didn't think that the total charge of $150 was too expensive it was also definitely not what I'd call cheap...Keep in mind that the "labor" portion of this transaction primarily consisted of the technicians driving to the home and of his phoning the safes manufacturer to obtain the combination...considering that the safe's manufacturer provided the combination for free I believe that there was plenty of "meat on the bone" to cover the locksmiths operating costs.......
