TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted December 28, 2004 The best unit in the state is undoubtably unit 46A for Coues deer. I don't think any hunter here will disagree w/ me on that one.
bullwidgeon Report post Posted December 28, 2004 I am partial to 12A West myself for coues but alot of guys will say 36B. I would agree with them if they are talking about 10-15 years ago before the illegal circus down there got as bad as it is now. Bret M
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted December 28, 2004 On a more serious note, I believe that pretty much all units in the state will carry 100+ inch bucks. Some areas have higher deer densities than others however. There are 4 things I look for when deciding on an area to hunt. 1. How accessible is the area to other hunters? 2. What water and food sources are available 3. And what predator impact is there in that area. 4. And most important, am I seeing good bucks? When a coues buck reaches it's 6th or 7th year I would guess that most coues bucks would score 90+ inches. For archery I like unit 27 in the thick stuff. For rifle i'ts all good. BASS Report post Posted December 28, 2004 I personally like unit 32 but they need to shut it down for a year or so, as most of the bucks arn't very large, but they are all over the place! I have gone 2 for 2 in the last two years there, and both were shot about 200 yards from each other.
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted December 29, 2004 About 2 or 3 months ago we had the same question, remember? and my answer is still the same, the best unit is: the one you get a tag for. Now for USO the best unit will be 41 or 40B on late August.
recurveman Report post Posted December 29, 2004 I think most of the units are great. I really think the best unit is the one that you spend the most time in. I have buddies that love the units they hunt and I wouldn't think about hunting those units. They bring back some nice bucks too. I personally would look at which units the game and fish are managing for trophy units and which ones they aren't. That is how I do my "prescouting" when I decide to hunt a new unit or a different species of animal. Good luck, recurveman
BRYCE CANYON Report post Posted December 29, 2004 When I got a 5th choice Oct. 30B tag this year I almost did not hunt because of the units bad reputation. I ended up shooting a 95" buck and had a great time. I would go back again in a heartbeat. You can find nice deer in any unit.
